I’m looking for suggestions on a folding EDC knife. The kicker is I’m looking for one with a blade length of 3.75” to 4”. The one I’m considering is the Al Mar Eagle (that’s the general styling I like). But with the scales I want it’s edging up to $200. I’m hoping to hold it to $100ish. Preferably less.
I’m currently carrying the CRKT M4-02:

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

The Buck 110 is in this size range, and the new smoke jumper 110lt is an ultralight version in a more premium steel for around $40.

Check out the kizer domin or begleiter. Both sorta similar to the al mar you like and under $100. I'm a huge fan of kizer. They make very nice knives for great prices. If you wanna increase the budget a little more check out the kizer basalt.

IF you like the Al Mar style, Kershaw has their AM-4 modeled on Al's Designs. Blade is a bit smaller at 3.5" but so is the price. Below $50. My son loves his.

Actually you can edit the blade specification to anything you want.

EDIT As whp said, Recon 1 is a great knife.

Still nothing wrong with a good ol Spyderco Endura.

If a 3.62" blade is close enough, you can go with one of the best budget blades in the last few years, the Ontario Rat 1 in D2 steel (yes, spend a few more dollars for the D2). About $40.

Interesting choices! How are they similar to the Al Mar Eagle style that the OP is likes? The 110 is as similar to the Al Mar Eagle as the Opinel Mushroom knife I often post when folks have given no conditions! :D

S Steven505 , what exactly about the Eagle do you like?

OP is currently using a one handed opening knife made by CRKT and is interested in the one handed opening Al Mar Eagle. I don't see how either of your suggestions make much sense in this context, particularly the standard Buck 110. It's a good knife, but somewhat irrelevant in this instance.

I'd keep my eye on the Spyderco Native Chief, which allegedly made an appearance at Blade Show this year.

It seems like you recommend the Buck 110 at every available opportunity, even when it's not a good fit. After seeing your stuff in the July knife thread, I'm wondering if maybe you should try out some other peoples' recommendations. By arbitrarily planting your flag on the 110, you're really missing out.

The Buck 110 is an outdated pocket brick IMHO, it’s a classic but there are better options
Check out Spyderco’s product line for light weight one handed opening, options with possibly superior steel choices.

Manix,Endura, PM etc

Whether or not it is outdated or a brick or of inferior steel is up to debate, and this thread doesn't seem like the place to have that debate.

My point, however, is that it is nothing at all like an Al Mar Eagle, which the OP says in in the style he is looking for.

Even I, who has been accused of never shutting up countless times, will keep my mouth shut when I don't have a relevant knife suggestion or can answer a question of fact with something demonstrable.

That said, IF that spear pointy, daggery kind of look is what the OP likes about the Eagle (as opposed to the bolsters, or the lightweight handle, etc) I will throw out a left field suggestion.

Its got that "pointy" vibe and I have been eyeing it lately.

That awesome Fred Perrin Douk Douk will be mine!

S Steven505 It’s 3.5 inches but a high quality AlMar design. Check out the Nemesis knives MPR-1. It is basically an AlMar design but with titanium scales. Very high quality, vg10 blade steel which is arguably better than aus8 which comes standard on most AlMar knives.

Playing devil's advocate, which variant of the Al Mar Eagle is the OP looking at?

Seems everyone assumes they know, but the op never did actually specify; talon, classic, lightweight, HD? Only specific the op gave was that the handle he wants is closer to $200, but;
https://www.bladehq.com/item--Al-Mar-Eagle-Classic--2391
or
https://www.bladehq.com/item--Al-Mar-Eagle-Heavy-Duty-Lockback--38380
Are both in that $200 range but come with totally different configurations,
in which case, to be fair to old hick, a Buck 110 LT / (firejumper) wouldn't be quite as far off if the op actually wanted an al mar eagle classic with nail nicks and a belt sheath...

The devil is always in the details...

Mostly the size and styling.

Boker Gent XL in D2 steel. This is a titanium framelock with a blade length of 3.875" it also has a tip up pocket clip. Well under $100

Dude always recommends Buck 110 no matter what. Just have to get used to it and move on.
