EDC Folders with clip - Front or Back pocket carry?

I never carry a folder in my back pockets. I have tried it once and damaged car seats, couch cushions, and pocket clips that way. I have also almost lost a knife that way as well. On top of that it is terribly uncomfortable. Just my opinion though.

Perhaps I've got a narrow rear end, or maybe wide rear pockets, but I don't actually ever sit on the knife unless I'm doing something like... Laying down on the carpet watching a movie or something. The knife is way off to the side. Also I've not yet come close to losing a knife, or damaging anything yet, but I could see how that could be an issue with some bulkier clips.

Also, I can kind of get peoples comments about pickpockets in big cities/crowds. I guess I'm just not the type of person that enjoys either of those things, so I don't think about preparing for something like that (I try to avoid big crowds and therefore cities as much as I can, I just prefer more space I guess).

Anyway, lots of interesting replies, its been enlightening so far.

I never sit on my knife either. The way I clip it is where it's furthest to the right side, almost at my hip. I've never carried anything but a Sebenza in my back pocket though (which I carry 99% of the time), so I think something wide like a manix or a ZT would be a bit uncomfortable.

I couldn't see myself using a clip if I were on a bus or somewhere crowded though, I don't really go to crowded places though.

1 knife in left front pocket, tip up left-hand carry if possible....tip down right-hand quite often, though (gotta love being in the %15).

i carry my clipped folder in my right rear pocket, Vic Pioneer (of Farmer) and a can of chew in my front right. its just a matter of easy access for me, i cant stand trying to dig around for my most often used knife (a SAK) or my chew with a larger folder in the way. my wallet goes in my back left, and my keys and a flashlight in my front left, making it easy to get everything i edc with minimal effort.

Yep, same here. I avoid the wider blades as well.

And hilarious fireman story. I'd have been a little weirded out as well.

Front right tip up, and I wear only Duluth firehouse pants and they have very useful cargo pockets. So I carry side left tip up also usually an assisted flipper or auto . I also carry my bk24 scout style in back once in a while. Always always have 2 main blades and my leatherman.

Right front pocket carries a .38 or 9mm so it's fully occupied and unavailable for a knife. I mostly wear Tru-Spec cargo pants that have narrow knife pockets on both sides. If the knife is too wide for the pocket, it goes in the thigh cargo pocket. If I'm wearing jeans, I sometimes carry in the right back pocket or left front pocket--neither are favorite carry spots but you gotta make do with what you got.

I also carry a small knife without clip in my left front pocket--Spyderco Dragonfly, Cat or Chicago...sometimes a Case Stockman or Medium Jack.

Right front pocket, right next to my wallet. Makes it incredibly hard for a pickpocket to steal either one without it being known. Plus there's no risk of accidentally damaging the knife by sitting on it.

I generally carry a SAK in my right front pocket and it tends to get used the most. I also often carry a clipped knife on a leg pocket with cargo pants which I wear a lot or to right back pocket. Sometimes I'll substitute a large traditional knife in a leather slip in a back pocket (GEC #42), but I often will still have the clipped knife in the leg pocket.

It is IN my back pocket and if the knife is not too fat, sitting is no problem. I remove it when driving as I don't want to take a chance tearing car seats. The same would apply to nice furniture.

this...and ive never had any problems with the clip leaving scuffs/scratches on my wife's leather furniture. Im guessing the only time it might be an issue would be if a guy/gal had a clip with a pewter, bronze, or silver design on it (skull, dragon, etc...)
