I would like to get suggestions for an edc for myself and my two sons (ages 26 & 28). This will be a surprise gift for them and a much needed upgrade for me. I will get the same make & model for each of us. Right now they just carry Leatherman P4's and I have a Gerber Ripstop. So this knife will be a big upgrade for all three of us.

I will limit the knife choice to $200.00 or less, a plain blade with length of about 3" or less, pocket clip, a secure lock and non-auto (must be legal in MN).

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

spyderco delica either vg10 and have some money left over or zdp and not have money left over. i would get the zdp. Good luck

Benchmade Mini Griptialians all the way around.......you can probably get 3 shipped to your front door for about $180 if you shop around. Just one of about a million solid choices.

- regards

If it is $200 or less per knife then I would have to say as I have been saying in other threads------ Bradley Alias II

If you like recurve knives, the Benchmade 635 is a Ti framelock knife. A very nice knife.

Sorry, this one is a 3.5 inch blade.

+ 1 on the mini-griptillian if it is 200 per knife i have heard wonderful things about the ritter models. The delicas are good too but i prefer the grips. If you can go a little over 3 inches I would also suggest looking at the mcusta Mc-1s.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I will take a look at Benchmade and others and decide just what to get. Next, I will need to learn just how to care for these quality knives and the right way to sharpen them.

Thanks all!

Welcome to BF!

+1 to any Benchmade with Axis Locks, they are fun and very nice blades.
To sharpen them, I recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker; easy to use and a reasonable cost. Good luck and enjoy...

Spyderco Persian might work.

Buy a Sharpmaker and it will sharpen those BM's to shaving sharp in minutes. I ordered the ultra-fine rods as well and things are scary sharp in the house.

Great sharpener.

I would go with caly 3 in laminated zdp or vg-10 steel,or emerson snubby cqc-14.

Really tough call since it depends whether you want a gentlemens knife with some style (all metal/inlays/wood) for a carry piece or looking for something that leans to the more utilitarian style (FRN) off the shelf. For utilitarian, the Spyderco Delica is a nice blade and you can now get it in G-10 which looks a bit nicer than the FRN IMO. The Benchmade Griptilians are also great everday users. If you're after something a little more unique - the Benchmade Opportunist has form and function -- 3" S30V blade with aluminum and wood handles. Just some thoughts.

Caly III , in either flavor - bout 140 out of NGK . A deffinitive EDC .

If you're going to spend that much on knives, you might as well cough up a little extra and go for some Chris Reeve Sebenzas. In my opinion, they are well worth the money.
