Edc gear recommendations

bradpierson.... me I'm 66, and had a 1911 once... earned a Limited Master USPSA card with one, now pretty much shoot a wimp 9mm...

I have an old backpack with anold folder, water bottle, old clothes (including a heavy hooded sweater), small shovel, blanket and a full first aid kit. Never needed it, but it is nice to have in an emergency.

Throw a pair of boots in the truck; street shoes are good for the daily drive but not in some emergencies.

Something else I thought of, that I know has been mentioned before, but bears repeating. Lots of folks have heard about putting ICE: in their phones contact list for emergency services to contact them (I've also used it to help return lost phones by looking for that or MOM in the contacts) But almost everyone I know locks their phones. So that doesn't work so well. Another option for the smartphone crowd is to also put your emergency contact number on the lock screen of your phone. Also having emergency contact info in your wallet is a good option. For riders, there are little stickers, like postal manifest stickers that you can get for your helmet to keep some contact details in. It seems like a simple thing that isn't needed if you are healthy with no allergies, but your medic won't know that. So getting that info can save time later down the road.
Plus just talking to another human who knows you makes you a person to that medical team. Again, a small thing, but every little bit counts to the treatment you get. I know that quite a few of the guys on this forum are pretty rough and ready, but just talking to a mom, wife, or loved one takes you from "some guy who probably had it coming" to "a guy with a family that deserves to live" I would like to trust in professionalism, and for people to do the right thing every time, but the truth is sometimes people just need a little help to get there.
