Well a whole bunch of my knives got a workout this week while I was teaching 31 home schooled kids to whittle. Two groups, 16 and 15 ages 9 - 13.
They learned to cut safely and mad a Redneck Pencil, a flying propeller toy, a working boomerang, a hiking staff and a yipstick as well as a bunch of simple gnomes/spike trolls.
Everybody had a lot of fun and didn't bleed much! (OK a little for some of them.)
I teach a lot of kids to whittle (adults too, but other projects - mostly caricatures), and they all just love it. They find out that a knife, while a lousy weapon, is a fantastic tool, and especially in the case of a traditional pocket knife, is one that can go along almost anywhere so it is available when a whittlin' fit strikes.
Anyway over 30 of my knives, a lot of different brands and patterns, some old, some new, got a real workout for four straight days
