Don't know about the stainless but the carbon blade takes a truly terrifying edge and holds it well. Carries nicely (like the douk) I couldn't really choose between the two as I love both of them. I would say the Mercator is a bit easier on the hand when in hard use due to the shape of the handle.

The Pocket Bushman should be a strong candidate for bug out bags and glove boxes. It's a good, BIG, simple SHTF type knife.
