I like my homemade jig. It is set up for the 2 1/2 X 11 1/2" Norton stones but can use any size stone. With the turnbuckles, I can set the angle to 0.1 degrees using a digital clinometer. Right now, I have one side set to 15 degrees off vertical and the other at 20. These angles correspond with the Spyderco Sharpmaker settings. That way I can finish up on the S/M when I am using finer grits and alternating sides on every other pass.
I put the jig on a double sheet of newspaper, make many passes on one side of the blade, rotate the paper and jig 180 degrees, and do the same number of strokes on the other side. This keeps the edge centered. I put successively finer stones on the jig to polish the tapers after the initial tapers are extended to the end of the edge.View attachment 387239

I just bought one of these but haven't used it yet, what do you think of it so far?

YO Whet! So far, so good! I love the fact that it's got a full flat grind. I went through this apple like it was nothing.

Seriously, though, the heft of this thing really tickles my fancy. It has classy lines, but the liner lock is more than substantial to really dig into your cuts. Good balance and detent. I tore down a box here at work a few minutes ago and it sliced it up with no resistance. Just to check my edge retention, I busted out some paper and it kept a pretty good edge. I've read a lot of complaints on 8Cr13MoV, but I've had nothing but good experiences with it. I'll toss a couple more pics up when I can.

Beginnings of a box slaughter...

And still going through paper. Excuse the rounding at the end of the cuts. Totally my hand placement's fault. But you get the idea.

Oh no you didn't!

That looks awesome:thumbup::thumbup:

No "I" didn't.
fastlt1nos, of the Benchmade forums and the Usual suspects network, did all the pimping.
He made Ti bolsters & double black canvas micarta scales, BB the bolsters & Ti liners + put in LH clip mount.
I just added the brass standoffs and Ti thumbdisk.
As anyone can see, he has done an excellent job.

Color me stupid. I'm trying to figure out how to post photos on line, and I manage to put a sharpening post in the Which knife thread. Duh.
