Flushed with soap & hot water, dried thoroughly, oiled & wiped down a few times, and now to cycle it a bunch. Seems like it's slowly smoothing out. We'll see...

That's too bad about the grittiness, it is a beautiful knife Brett.

Thats pretty normal for damascus. Because its not as smooth as a regular blade/finish it can be gritty before it breaks in.

You can run your finger over damascus and feel the slight variation so imagine what effect that has on the pivot area when opening and closing.

Oil regularly and keep cycling it. She'll be fine.

I split enough wood that all my knives get a turn! An enjoyable chore is a rare thing. Splitting junks that have frozen is particularly gratifying, something everyone should try.

We certainly weren't cold but we were without power for a few days, was actually kind of nice to be free from technology for a while. The highlight was the missus cooking bologna and eggs on the woodstove in the dark :cool:

Been modding this slowly, this weekend I will be texturing the blade to remove the "strider" logos.
