It's just a small piece of gutted 550 cord with an overhand knot on the end. Nothing special. I keep my Cadet in my right front pocket and the lanyard helps me retrieve it from the depths.

Pardon me for interjecting I believe it is Burger EXK1, Burger is a South African custom knife maker. Boker Plus makes a production version called the Exskelibur that comes in two sizes.
