Lots and lots of dish soap and super hot water. After everything is de-crabbed/buttered, wipe it down then open it up and throw it in the food dehydrator for a while. It has heat and a fan, so it drys it out pretty well. There are always a small rust spot or two to chase down, but I carry and use it every day or two, so it's no big deal. I just hit it with a rust eraser block (AKA: gummy stone) for ski/snowboard edges and voila, the rust is gone. It's a Leatherman, not one of my customs, a tool to be used and it gets it.
I've never considered a food dehydrator, but that's s good way to get some extra utility out of it.. I'm probably too lazy for that approach, but I'd go the extra mile for a pile of crab.
