One think to remember - _IF_ you have to head for a shelter, they will NOT let you in with a knife!!

Dumb, but that's the way it is....

I do volunteer disaster work, with a group that often works with the Red Cross. We do technical work, and often have to do wiring/cutting/etc - aka real work, and they won't even let US in with a Leatherman!

Hey ... that little flat wrench/screwdriver on the left side of the pack ... where did you get it? I used to have a couple of those, but I lost them.

As far as what I'd carry ... what I carry every day would be more than sufficient for me and probably a few others. :D If I were venturing out on purpose, I'd wear my vest which has some extra stuff like gloves, two-way radio, more light sources. Might like a prybar and an axe. And a water carrier.

I think a lot of use would refuse to go under those circumstances. Unless I was injured or really, really sick, I can't imagine how being unarmed in an enclosed place with a lot of strangers would be better than being on my own with my AR. :D

mini skirmish
oh trekker
deluxe tinker
couple good disposable lighters
couple packs of camel non filters

Evac to a shelter would not be possible for me due to pets and livestock, giving a worst case New Orleans type scenario, I would pack some stuff out on horseback with a rifle and pistol in plain site.

My current EDC would be fine, I think -- Emerson CQC-10.
I'd also grab my Cold Steel Bushman.
Got tools in my truck.
Peace.

"RFP" - Right Front Pocket
... keep going for other pockets.
"BOB" - Break Out Bag/Bail Out Bag

I am fairly confident in my edc gear, para mil, small fb, gerber multiplier, very basic first aid, firestarting, duct tape, paracord, meds, this stuff is either in my pockets or in my bag and the specific survival gear is carried together in a pouch that I can carry without the pack. Theres also usually a halgene bottle and I just picked up some eneergy rations to add on. Should be enough stuff to get me thru. If I had reason to suspect something I might thruow my crk aviator in the pack.

Powells85, thanks very much for explaining those acronyms. Compared to other interests I have, people in knife forums use more acronyms, and I have yet to learn them all....not that I want to! Acronyms mess up my brain.

Yes, something like RFP is shorter to read than "right front pocket", but it actualy slows down my reading, compared to the full words. I guess because my brain has been processing "right front pocket" for over 50 years, reading "RFP" requires my brain to hesitate, while it makes some sort of cerebral adjustment to make a translation. I guess it's the same problem as trying to learn a foreign language: much more difficult when you are older.

Oh well, carrry on, young people!

Add a small pouch containing a couple of pairs of latex gloves and packets of Quik-Clot, and this was my Critical Incident Response Team rig. My significant other would often goof on me, for having one of my most valuable customs on my rig. I would explain to her that in a catastrophic event large enough to require my deployment, it was the knife's value as a high quality tool, and not as a collectable, that measured it's worth. It has the most functional saw back I've ever had on a knife, which outweighs the fact that the only other example is owned by Sylvester Stallone. :p

Do you use it very often? How well does it work?

I have one attached to my PSK:

...and another "floater" for whichever pocket or pack I'm going to be using today.

They are very handy. I have used them most often as jemmies ("prybars" to you chaps from the colonies ;) ). For their size & weight, they're a must-have.
