I've owned both - I think a lot of it comes down to what size knife you prefer the L51 is a pretty substantial piece in terms of overall size (3.7 inch blade is typical). Thorburn's front-flippers are typically smaller, both in blade-length (more like 3 inches or a bit over) and fit in the hand. Initially the front-flipper mechanism seems strange, but it quickly grows on you and I actually prefer it (it gives the knife a "sleeker" look). Hope you're able to find one that suits you - I've never regretted buying a ThorburnJohn Arnold (another South African) makes excellent front-flippers as well - pretty darn close, if not equal to, a Thorburn in smoothness. His aesthetic sense is superb as well.
That's a higo no kami
Or higonokami
It's a Japanese friction folder and generally not too expensive
Thanks for the reply:thumbup:
There's been some pretty cool flippers coming out of South Africa lately, and they're all at good prices. Those Front-Flippers are just so cool though, especially how you can open them with your thumb like a lighter.
Sweet looking blade!
