EDC Kephart handle WIP /kinda thing

got the one type of pin in today (the front pin is only temporary for now. Sorry for the picture quality but got to it late today and just wanted to see how it looked push together - added an old texas jack to make up for it :). Might be a bit of a long wait for the other pin material to come in so this may be it for a while. I'm very eager to get to using this one.

ta dar, PINS!

2 things:
1. in my eagerness to get the brass pin in I may have cracked the left scale at the but end slightly, pretty confident I can compensate though, (yes I may have said a few things at the time on the nature of life and the parental history of burled wood, but ti was my bad)
2. the mosaic [pin is a little two perfectly 1/4 if you get what I mean it pushes straight through, again I think I can compensate.

And it was all going so well :) worked on a sheath for a while to calm my nerves

Hey Pete..once you get it pretty much shaped to where you want it you can fill the cracks with super glue then finish sand it.
(learned that from Andy Roy.)
I had to do the super glue trick to an old Muskrat Man Nessie I have.(came out great)
And you might find another tube that the Mosaic will fit into & just make the hole bigger to accommodate the pin in a tube.
Just a thought.

I often wonder about the parental history of burl wood myself.(that's why I usually use micarta ;))

Thanks Myke! I was hoping glue might save the day :) I do have some copper hollow rod as well, it's a little to large b but with some sanding and if the mosaic fit in, now you've got me thinking...ummm

just makes it more challenging :) which can and is both good and bad I suppose :p

thanks.

wood dust is flying around here :)

All glued up

have a lot of work to do especially around the finger choil to make it my hand comfy but i think it's coming together okay.

Was very excited to get out this morning and get a picture of this thing, thought I had some good ones only to find out the light had washed out the blade in every one of them () anyway, went out to snap a few more and the camera died - ever had one of those days? :p

It is very smoooth, (took it to 100 grit, buffed it - no compound but it removed dust really well - then linseed oil.) almost too slippery for a woods knife :)

next time, liners :)

2nd sheath, first one was made while it was gluing and was much to big, but it killed the time. this ones okay, I've taken to speed over finish with sheaths, and I must stop it. Still it's the first two I've made since moving and had to dig out the tools and leather from the garage so I'm happy enough.

My first response when i saw this was, "Holy SH@T!" but, i want to keep it clean for such a classy knife. ;)

Peter...this is definitely your best yet. that handle is gorgeous (truly). i love it. i like what you did with the sheath too.

good stuff man.

We're gonna have quite the cutlery table at the Spring Gathering.

Jeff

That came out great! Sheath work is looking good too!

Wow, having seen what you guys can do I really appreciate your comments, thanks again. It's rode with all day today :D

That turned out great! It kind of reminds me of a small version of that guardless Kephart I made before Christmas.
