Hey guys,

Recently I picked up a small opinel (#8 I think). For the past few weeks before it arrived I had been carrying a peanut for fine cutting tasks and a sodbuster jr for heavier tasks. Since getting the opinel I have been thinking about switching it in for the peanut. I guess I just love the medium to small sized one blade traditional knives.

So my question to you guys is what two knives (if you carry two) do you carry and for what reasons.

When I get to wear jeans I often carry two knives. Only one of them is a traditional though, the other is a modern folder that I keep clipped to my pocket. As to why I carry both, I guess you can say that I just like knives.

Yeah, I carry two knives everyday.
The knife that never changes and I always and I mean always have on me is my SS #73.

I like the stainless GEC uses and think knife is perfect for food prep.

The other knife will generally have two carbon steel blades.

I usually carry more than one knife, usually one medium-to-large locking folder and one smaller knife, either a locking "tactical" or more often a traditional knife. At my current job I'm not supposed to carry, but I do use a small slipjoint to break down boxes and open packages because I prefer the knife to a boxcutter. When I get out of work I put my larger knife back in my pocket or on my belt. I must say that the smaller knife usually gets the most use during the week, but I won't go out without the bigger knife at least in my bag, if not on me.

well, for the past year, i have been carrying two pocket knives; a 2008 vic alox soldier deep pocket and a case 3318 cv yellow handle med. stockman in the watch pocket. have found you just can't beat the old school soldier for edc utility!

during the coming weeks, i am planing on replacing the med. stockman with a buck 309 companion pen knife which i'm hoping but confident that this pen knife will carry much easier in my watch pocket!

I carry Two knives. It used to be a Delica and an endura, but know i'm rotating in SAKs and other traditional knives but keeping an Endura or similar sized knife with me most of the time

I only carry one knife. And, mostly, it's a single bladed one.
It's a very personal choice after all (we don't use our knives the same way or for the same tasks and so on). One knife is more than enough for me.
As a sidenote, I assume your Opinel is not a #8 (which would be, in fact, at least as large as your sodbuster); most probably it's a #5 or #6 :)

i dont usually combo 2 knives anymore (unless you count the vic classic on my keyring, which i probably should)
but i usually carry a traditional ..by itself

but occasionally i do combination carry, if i do its usually a modern folder in one pocket and my Wenger SI in the other (these are for the days i dont know what to expect)

I use to change nearly everyday with carrying a knife. (the Vic Classic on the keyrings not counted ;) )

Mostly a smaller sized traditional and a bigger one (Trapper and Peanut combination). Or just one Medium sized knife (Medium Stockman or my favorite knife GEV #66 Serpentine Jack).

For sure, it changes nearly from day to day ;)

But I don´t use to carry any modern folder or tactical knife (anymore). I don´t need that, that´s the reason. And the modern knives seem to be some kind of soulless.

I like the spirit traditional knives give during carrying and using them.

Kind regards
Andi

I don't think I can possibly answer this question, today it's a R. Cover slipjoint, (because it's a beautiful knife) a Case Swayback Jack, (because it has a Wharncliff blade I use for stippin' wire and light cuttin' chores) and finally the 2010 Traditional Forums Queen Cutco Moose, (because it's a stout blade great for medium duty work, cuttin' up boxes and such).

The knives change quite frequently dependin' on what tickles my fancy that day, but typically it's a small, medium, and or large traditional folder.

I had this one in the daily carry thread the other day but it fits the topic on this thread so I'll put it up again.

This is my second knife on most days, an Elinox Secretary. The primary knife is usually larger and oftentimes a Spyderco. The Secretary is great because it's so thin and completely disappears in the pocket. Its small size works well for when a larger blade is not needed or might be indiscreet for a certain situation.

I'm a 2 knife guy myself. One traditional slip joint and a button lock in a clip pouch (I won't mention what it is. I don't want to have to infract myself). :D

I add a third knife, always a fixed blade in a belt sheath, if I'm in the woods.

I bet I could rationalize carrying more but I might need therapy at that point.

I carry two knives every day.

I've been carrying this Buck 501 Squire every day.

I'm carrying this slip joint today too but generally change this knife out with other slip joints daily or at least every couple/three days.

At least two, right now three but I just got back from a Scout meeting :D Tonight was a Mercator K55 in a front pocket, GEC Tidioute Dogleg Jack in my other pocket, and a Vic Huntsman in a pouch clipped to my waistband.

At work, just one small folder in my khakis front pocket, after work one in my jeans watch pocket (Peanut or similar), and either a traditional slipjoint in my left front pocket and/or a Spyderco or Kershaw clipped to the pocket.

Camping trips I usually have a bigger knife clipped to my belt and/or a fixed blade (usually a Mora Scout, sometimes a Helle Boy Scout).

Yep, got it bad... ;)

I usually carry a traditional and whatever blade(s) are on the multitool I carry. Typically a Spirit S.

It changes for me all the time.

Right now, I'm carrying a Leatherman Juice ES2 on my keys, which is a keychain sized multi-tool with a wire strippers as the main tool. (I'm an electrical engineer)

The "proper" pocket knife in my pocket depends on what I'm expecting for the day. If I'm expecting to sit at my desk all day, it'll probably be something small and simple, like a Peanut, Pen, small toothpick, or even a Vic Classic. If it is the weekend and I'm going to be doing handyman-type stuff, it'll be a Vic Cybertool 34 or Vic SwissTool. If I'm going to the woods, maybe a Sodbuster Jr., Vic Soldier, Slimline Trapper, or even maybe a full size Buck hunting knife. (which doubles as a small machete) If I'm not doing anything special, something of medium size.

Right now, I'm on vacation, helping my wife out with the newborn. Around the house, I sometimes don't carry anything, as there are knives scattered here and there throughout the house.

As a knife collector, there's no reason to feel obligated to stick with a certain combo. We have dozens of knives because we like the variety. At least I do. Everytime I try to pigeonhole myself into some kind of rotation or pattern, I get anxious and I'm dying to switch. So I've given that up. My taste in knives is kind of blue collar; my most expensive knife is the Vic Cybertool 34, at something like $85. I've been collecting them since I was 13 or so (I'm 35 now) so I have lots from which to choose.

FWIW - I just got an Opinel the other week. I lost my first one, which was a #7. I consider that medium size. The one I just got is a small/medium #6. I consider #8 to be medium/large. I love how light this knife is for the size, and I love that it feels so warm in the hand, even if my leg hasn't been warming it up in my pocket. I love the rotating locking collar, and the fact that it is basically the same after 120 years on the market. I also love that the blade isn't overly thick. It is thin enough to still be useful for food prep. I can't say that about many of my pocket knives. I've got to give the French props for respecting their traditions.

So my question to you guys is what two knives (if you carry two) do you carry and for what reasons.
I carry two knives most of the time:
one modern one-hander.
one traditional
(actually I carry three if you count the Vic Classic on my key ring.)

I carry the one-hander mostly for those times when I don't have two hands free to open a knife.

I carry the traditional for most of my cutting needs.

I carry the Classic for the scissors and the toothpick.

If you count fixed knives then sometimes two. But even then if I need a machete I probably don't need a folder and vice versa. I know I'm boring.
