This is getting ridiculous. I wouldn't sink anymore money or much more time into this. Sounds like she has something right now that fills the role she wants. She's a difficult person to deal with...

Flashing a knife around that is illegal to carry (she is not reasonably carrying it as a tool no matter what you or she thinks, sorry) is something to stay away from. Throwing knives not meant for throwing. Not listening to reason. Sounds like something to stay away from IMO.
You already said you are not long term invested here so give her the advice you have and move along.
Dear god, do not buy her any of these nice knives. She will trash them. Not sure your price range, or if orange is the top go to choice, but for $129.99 there is a pretty nice Buck exclusive, full flat ground D2 blade w/ micarta handle 104 Compadre dubbed the "Frontier" at SKblades, inspired by the forum here on bladeforums...
TM Hunt Mogua comes in a bunch of different cool handles, o1 steel would be tough to break, but they are also in the $200+ range
Bark River has a plethora of options, designs and handle materials; most are over the $200 mark, but many of the models available in a2 steel are under $200..
Lionsteel b40 runs about $160 in Sleipner
Knives of Alaska Elk Trekker (or Pronghorn hunter) is a nice smaller 3.25" knife available with an orange handle and nice leather sheath for <$100.
They do a pretty good job with their d2, so yet another pretty tough steel to break, although "only" about 0.12" thick.
Even a bit smaller, Knifeworks has an orange Izula knife with od green micarta handles.
Just a few more names thrown into the ring for your consideration...

I think best case scenario is a cop ends up with a nice knife, so not all bad I guess!Lol, I just skimmed the post before replying, mainly looking for key parameters like price/size, but didn't take note to her wrecklessness... Honestly though, financially supporting a decent and reputable maker, I could care less what she does with them after the purchase, and maybe, just maybe, with a nice quality knife, she might learn to have a little bit more respect for it?
Maybe not, (probably not, esp. if it's not her money), but maybe... Just maybe...
I have one, and while it is a fantastic knife, it might not be long enough. It is in between an Esee 3 and an Izula. She'd probably just break it any way.Good steel, splash of color, not too expensive, lightweight for easy purse carry. Long enough?

She wants to have the knife he has, but she also doesn't want to have the same knife as someone she knows, so she decided to just trade with him...I agree that it’s getting ridiculous. Based on what you’re sharing with us, she doesn’t seem to have a concrete choice of knife yet. Why the need to have to trade with your friend? Just get the knife you want directly.
