EDC Knife For Less Than $100

There's talk that a D2 Rat2 is due any day now. I believe it was estimated to be released around Christmas time this year. However, recent update says they're tied up in customs. This will probably be the best value 3" folder if you don't have fairly large hands. I wear large gloves and the handle fits very well but I wouldn't want my hands to be any larger.

With the very short requirements list, a lot of knives fit the bill. Of the folders I have experience with:
  • For just under 3 inches: Spyderco Persistence or Delica
  • For just over 3 inches: Spyderco Manix 2
The Chaparral does look nice too, but I've not handled one.

Good luck finding something you like.

Take a look at the Kershaw Camber . It has am MSRP of $139 , but it can be found for under $100 and has s30v blade steel .

Check the big auction site right now ;-)

Spyderco Native 5LW. It may be a personal thing, but I like it much better than the Delica.

That's a real issue with the Rat 2. It's really a great knife for the price, or even regardless of price, but my large hands couldn't deal with it. Finally, I gave up and went for the Rat 1 instead, and am much happier for it. It fits me great. But the blade is probably larger than you want. If it fits your hand, though, the Rat 2 is a contender.

The Buck Spitfire from SkBlades looks interesting. I recently got a folder from them and they do good work.

Couple others to check out. I own all these so the recs are firsthand.

ETA: Might find this thread helpful, too.

Doesn't that Buck Vantage have a BOS heat treat?

I'm also going to say Spyderco Native 5 FRN (or Delica) and Kershaw Dividend M390. At the $100 and under price range there are so many great options, a few people mentioned the Mini Grip, great knife as well.

Welcome UCF. Plenty of solid options mentioned. I think I would go Delica with an Alox Cadet. Your EDC options would be one, the other, or both.

I'm looking for an EDC knife for less than $100. My only other requirement is a blade length around 3 inches.

So far, I'm looking at

Cryo II, Blackwash from Kershaw
Cutjack C22M from Steelwill
Extreme Spitfire from SKBlades

What are your thoughts about these knives? Any other knives I should look at?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

Of those three knives the Steel Will Cutjack is league ahead of the other two. The Cryo and Spitfire are great knives but the Cutjack is just on another level.

Also the Cryo is assisted, which while cool at first it becomes annoying.

Welcome. Without knowing more, it's hard to suggest a knife better suited to your needs. If you want a nice EDC to butcher envelopes and dress the occasionally apple, I would suggest the Spyderco Delica 4. If you need something a little more robust the Benchmade Mini Griptilian might be your thing.

However, some to look at;
Steelwill cutjack mini
Benchmade; Bugout, Mini Barrage, Mini Griptilian.
Spyderco; Delica 4, Chaparral, Paramilitary 3, Mantra 1.
Cold steel American Lawman mini.

A pre-owned Spyderco Manix ll or Para 2. and if you can spring a little more go for a pre-owned the Gayle Bradley 2. It is one tough knife. Rat 2, and last but definitely not least Blade HQ has a sale on Kizers, I got the
V3 vigor in Ti and G-10 the blade is S35vn and make sure you look at the frame lock not the liner lock. It will leave you a nice chunk left from your $100. Only thing is that it 3.5" but it is a great knife. You can also look at Bestech knives, they have alot of knives under $100 I have a couple and they are great knives I hope this is helpful.

I'm a big fan of Spyderco for knives that work well and are well designed (something that you appreciate after a lot of use). A lockback makes for an ideal EDC since the spring helps keep the blade closed for the occasional loose pocket carry.

Delica in ZDP-189
Native 5 LW (available in multiple steels at different price points)
