EDC Knife - Wear slacks everyday

The Caly 3.5 will give a PM2-sized blade in a lighter, thinner package, and the wire "paper clip" pocket clip is more discrete and deep carry.

So many good choices here! I know the OP stated PM2 or Manix 2 but for office EDC I think I'd go with one of the Sage series, Chapparal, or Caly 3 or 3.5. Nice gentleman's folders with discreet wire clips.

+1

I prefer the PM2 over the Manix 2, but I agree that any of these other choices would make a great office carry.

We're probably not making this easier for the OP. :D

I'm sure we're not! ;-)

See you over on RFC. I have you and a couple other I guys I met over there to thank for this new Spydie addiction I have. I go by PWNolan over there BTW

Yes, I've seen that user name over at RFC. Glad I could help with the addiction. :D

I wear slacks everyday. I also own both the pm2 and a Manix 2. I don't think that either of those knives are slacks appropriate. Way to rugged and big. I absolutely love the delica with the clip removed and carry it everyday. I think slacks with a pocket clip looks tacky.

Never tried a Caly...until I read this thread.

If you like the Delica, then there is a good chance you'll like the Caly 3. The CF Caly 3 is one of my all time favorites and gets carried more than any other.

I work in an office environment, however I, as well, live in a small town. There wouldn't be any issues with someone considering it a deadly weapon.

Since people freaking out over a 'large' pocket knife isn't going to be an issue for you, which is great, I'll say this:

-If limited to only the standard versions of each, I would pick the PM2 due to its slimmer profile, significant weight advantage and the fact that my hand prefers its ergonomics and the compression lock.
-If you were to put the LW Manix(s) into the equation, I would still probably choose the PM2 but by a far slimmer margin. Both the LWs represent awesome values and weigh less than 3oz...potentially important given your attire.

More than likely, you'll wind up with both anyway...lets just be realistic. :D

Looking to get a EDC knife and I've narrowed it down to the PM2 or Manix2. Trying to keep it under $100 but wouldn't mind going up to $150 at the most. What are the advantages of each? Any reason I shouldn't get a black blade? Any others I should be looking at?

TIA
Maybe it's just me, but neither of these are perfectly suited for carrying in slacks. Too large and heavy, although others will disagree.

I have to agree with you.

Op I would look into something a bit more appropriate for slacks and then pick between the pm2 and the manix as a night and weekend carry knife. During the week while in slacks I would look at some of the lightweight options out there like the delica 4 or the endura 4. I have a delica 4 and it really is an amazingly light knife and it's available in different colors which would make it a bit more friendly in an office environment. Something about pulling out an orange or blue knife that goes over with common folk better than a digi cam pm2. Just something to think about.

When I wear lightweight pants, whether slacks, PJs nylon swim shorts, etc. I carry one of the following: Delica 4, Salt 1 (swim shorts) or if I'm wearing a suit or other nice attire, a Caly 3.5 CF. The Caly is the heaviest at 3.5 oz, but the wire clip makes it almost disappear and the carbon fiber scales are very smooth and comfortable.

I agree that a Chaparral/531 or similar and a separate after-hours knife will do you best.

The nice-looking super lightweights in good steel have a place, but sometimes you want an 860 Bedlam too.
