how do you guys answer when someone wants to borrow your personal EDC? " F*CK YOU!!! " or " i dont have one ". or maybe have a " loaner " on hand. :D

Depends on what they're using it for, but most of the time it's to open something or cut tape which I don't mind (if it's prying something or cutting metal I don't think so). And I don't let people I don't know use my knife.

I've seriously had knives dropped by idiots because they were AO and they freaked.

If I know the person I'll probably let them use my knife (depending on what they're using it for of course) and yell at them to buy a knife. If I don't know the person (in which case they probably wouldn't be asking me for my knife) I'll most likely not let them use it and tell them to buy a knife lol.

Most times I have a lower end knife that I care less about. If I don't know them, I'm a lot less likely to loan it out. I've had knives dropped, used to scape paint, and to pry stuff. :thumbdn:

One of my forestry lecturers said:

"the quickest way to lose a friend is lend them your knife"

They would have to be a good friend and knife savvy before I said 'yes' otherwise it would be a matter of finding them a beater to borrow.

I don't lend anyone my knife, if someone needs something cut and I want to help, then I'll cut it.

If he knew how to handle a knife properly, he would have one of his own.

If you do carry a beater to loan out, let it be something very simple, like a sodbuster, and don't keep a particularly good edge on it.

"Neither a borrower nor a lender be."

Unless it's someone that I know has the same respect for a good knife that I do, it's no.
The message may be masked in a friendlier fashion such as, "Sorry I left it in my other jacket" or some such, but it'll still be no.

The first thing I do is ask "Why do you not have one already"?

If there is something right there immediately that needs cut, I will most likely just do it myself, rather than hand a knife to someone that is not mature and responsible enough to already have one.

I really can't think of anyone that doesn't have an EDC on them, just like me, so the point rarely (if ever) comes up.

I always have at least one cheaper knife to lend anyone that needs a knife. I've found if they know I have a knife and won't let them use it they get offended so it's easy to just have a beater to give them.

That's what my SAK is for.;)

I usually always have a sheeple friendly,$20-$40 knife on hand for a loaner.

If it was one of you guys sure I would loan you my knife. An average person who thinks a knife is just a tool probably I would not.

If I knew the person and trusted them. I'd ask what they wanted to do first, if the task seemed appropriate for the knife then sure. If it was going to damage the knife, highly doubt I would. And if I didn't trust the person to be able to handle the knife without possibly harming themselves or another, I'd offer to do the cut for them.

Of course, in an emergency this would all be subject to change :P
"Help, give me your knife! My tie is caught in this shredder!!!"
"Oh man, sorry, I don't really know or trust you, I don't think that'd be a good idea on my part... Plus, you have a clip on that tie and it looks pretty sturdy, it might ding up my edge pretty bad."
