EDC of a fixed blade

I wanted some tips on carrying a fixed blade like the Izula, ESSE-3 or HEST? I am looking at all 3 but have always carried folders. if it matters 95% of the time my shirts are untucked.

I usually neck or pocket carry.... on the belt is my least favorite method as it seems to get

caught up on things.

I carry my Izula in a pocket sheath most the time. I have tried it clipped on my belt or pocket in a kydex sheath, but found I like it to be more concealed/secure down in the pocket. Cricket Dave made me a nice leather pocket sheath. KSF has some nice ones as well. I sometimes carry other smaller fixed blades the same way, but the Izula gets the most use by far.

I EDC my Izula everyday, regardless of what other knives I carry. I usually will carry it around my neck, but lately I've been carrying it in the ruler pocket of my Carhartt pants. Works great.

excuse my ignorance on the subject but how does pocket sheath stay put enough to reliable get the knife out of it? also I tend to carry stuff in most of my pockets does a pocket sheath take up the whole pocket?

I pocket carry in the stock sheath. It works fine in my dress pants and cargo shorts. I also carry weak side horizontally on belt when carrying my ccw. To get knife out, you put thumb on sheath and pop it off - pretty easy and fast. I don't edc folders anymore.

This is my setup. Looks like comb in pocket. Sheath stays in pocket for draw and re-sheath. Works for suit or jeans.

I like that sheath, where'd you get it? Not sure if I can get away with the comb disguise tho... being bald and all.

I carry my Izula in my left front pocket in the stock sheath. If I have to use it, I pull the knife and sheath out together, unsheath, use, resheath. I tried belt carry witha Bladetech clip, but much prefer pocket carry.

Personally I've just been using the stock sheath and it works great for pocket carry. I've got other stuff in the pocket I keep the Izula in as well, but it's been no hindrance for me.

I've got the micarta scales on mine just fyi, don't know that it makes a difference in the end, but it's what I've found to be most comfortable for me, otherwise, I'd just keep it naked...that's my second preference.

At any rate, I've been carrying the Izula in my front right pants pocket for about a month now. With the stock sheath it's always stayed vertical in my pocket. For the most part if I need it I just take it out sheath and all. If I needed to be more discreet about it and perhaps in a hurry, just pressing my thumb against the sheath and pulling just the Izula out is no problem at all. Comes out quite clean.

I used to only carry folders for EDC, but I'll never go back to them now after carrying the Izula. Honestly, I don't even know it's there until I need it. I just lends itself so well to pocket carry or any carry fashion you so choose. It's an absolutely awesome little knife and you can't go wrong with it.

I am a neck knife guy all the way. I will pair it with a folder sometimes, but usually it's just the necker. It doesn't matter what you are wearing, it always works. Here are Murray Carter's thoughts on neck knives, and I would consider him to be the neck knife expert of the world...

I have the Izzy, never really carry it in pocket but it would be ok, I prefer it as neck knife its my first necker but it sits well and thats what counts to me, and the handle is paracord wrapped... Hope this helps.:D

Here is a picture of the sheath Cricket Dave made for me. the back side of it is lined with suede it kinda makes it "stick" in your back pocket. For me its the only way to carry an Izula.

I'd love to see more pics of that! Nice work Cricket Dave

another option that I have used is mercop's "tac-tether" idea, para-cord around the big hole in the sheath and a belt loop. it seems to me to help hold it vertical in deep pockets, and no need to worry about the sheath, just draw and pull. I've also carried mine inside my belt piggybacked to my multitool sheath. hidden in plain sight.

The Izula and its factory sheath fit easily into my pocket. The 4 lives on my belt. I carry both everyday, all day.

Ive always carried folders and become very accustomed to being able to draw a knife, open, close and reclip it to my pocket with one hand without looking. I bought an Izula to carry and a small kydex sheath on ebay. I put a metal belt clip on it and carry it inside the wasteband. I love carrying it like this as I can barely even tell its there and its easy to draw but not so easy to re-sheath. I think I might have a custom sheath made with a larger opening, maybe even slightly longer on the side that lays against my skin so the knife can be rested against the sheath and slid into the opening. I hope that made sense.

When I lived in Irving, Texas, I carried my RC-3 in either a pocket holster from Knivesshipfree in my front right pocket or horizontal carry on my 12:00 with the factory sheath and a large Tek-Lok.
