EDC Opinion

Going from a dragon fly to a 940 the 940 will feel like a sword. It does carry nice it is thin and light but it will be significantly longer. I find the thumb posts are too close to the scales for my big thumbs to quickly flick it without first digging under the post a little bit.

Of the 3 I would pick the Sage. Delica is a nice blade but for me it did not see as much pocket time compared to others. You may like the Native or Para 3 in the same size category. Also Benchmade 556-1 Mini Grip. great steel.

I think you may be doing it wrong. I have XL hands, and never had any problems opening my 940. Don't put your thumb between the scale & the stud. Coming from underneath the stud. Slide your thumb along the scale upwards toward the top of the knife, not outwards away from the scale. By following the contour of the handle the blade will open easily and flick like lightning.

LOL! Our own @palonej dropped this hint on me one day, and my life has been forever changed.

I was fighting with a BM 530 at the time...and yes I was doing it wrong... Now the 530 flies open eagerly.

On topic, I'd try the Benchmade Bugout. It's a pleasure to carry.

Nothing against your other choices you listed, as they are all fine pieces. But the Bugout is insanely easy to carry.

Delica gets my vote. I've had all three and the Delica is all the knife you really need. I have had about 5. I like to switch around the scales. I now have two "custom" Dallas Cowboys delicas! (Blue and Grey scale swap and star engraving from house of blades). I recently got a "Grind Mod Delica from the forum. Its my favorite. Its dubbed the lil Military. Very cool knife. I believe there was a thread on them a while back. Its basically a delica with a paramilitary handle that makes a forward choil. Any way you go you wont be dissapointed.

I don't own it, but having already quite a few more Spydercos than BM's, I would go with the 940-2 for sure!

My 2 cents:

1) 940-2
Lightweight for size, disappears in pocket, open construction, fun to fidget with if that’s your thing. Good warranty. Sometimes hit or miss with fit & finish.

2) Sage 5
Spyderco quality, fun to fidget with, fair warranty, too big to be a small knife and too small to be a large knife(tweener)

3) Delica, compared to the others, meh
What GB940Rookie said, although I think that the BMK F&F issues have been largely resolved. I'm not a big fan of the reverse tanto blade shape on the 940, but it is fairly useful and does lend strength to an otherwise narrow profile.

I have all the Sages and they're great knives, though a little broad in pocket for an office knife. I have a Delica and Endura with bright handles that I use for woods and field knives up North, but they are kinda meh. The KnifeCenter exclusive Delica with HAP40/SUS410 laminated steel is pretty sweet, though. That one might draw a few compliments in an office environment.

ZT 0450 would be a great choice. Slender, like the 940, with a pointier blade if you prefer that style. The downside for office use might be that it's a flipper--"OMG, a switchblade! That's illegal!" It flips out easily, but rather discreetly without a huge thwack.

THE WINNER IS
Delica.

Thanks for all the advice; I learned so much. I went through all suggested, and decided that the Delica was right. The Dragonfly was and has been great, so the right choice is the Delica.

ZDP is nice; been great on the Dragonfly. The British Racing Green just makes me happy.

Appreciate all the input. Been lurking on this forum since I joined; been great.

Thanks again.

I own more expensive knives and I would not call the delica cheap, but delica ffg 4 is what may aproach the ultimate edc IMO.

Most, if not all, of my flippers can be manually pinched open if there are sheeple around at the time who might be frightened by a person with a small hand tool. Just pull the blade open instead of flipping it open.

I remember comparatively checking three of my similar, smallish flippers last month for that very feature you mention, rje58. My NeOn-UltraLite can be one-hand opened in a manner similar to my CRK Mnandi--thumb-forefinger pinch followed by a thumb sweep. The Giant Mouse GM3 can be opened similarly--not as easily, but two-hand opens with a pinch or using the nail-nick with no problem. The ZT0450 has a much stiffer detent, very little blade-spine protruding in the closed position, plus most of the spine is swedged making it impossible for me to open in any manner other than with the flipper.

I do like flippers than can be opened in a more "civilized" manner so as not to strike fear in the general, non-knife-knut populace.

Edit: I didn't mention the first two in my earlier post as they would seem to be outside the price-range alluded to by our OP.
