Going from a dragon fly to a 940 the 940 will feel like a sword. It does carry nice it is thin and light but it will be significantly longer. I find the thumb posts are too close to the scales for my big thumbs to quickly flick it without first digging under the post a little bit.
Of the 3 I would pick the Sage. Delica is a nice blade but for me it did not see as much pocket time compared to others. You may like the Native or Para 3 in the same size category. Also Benchmade 556-1 Mini Grip. great steel.
I think you may be doing it wrong. I have XL hands, and never had any problems opening my 940. Don't put your thumb between the scale & the stud. Coming from underneath the stud. Slide your thumb along the scale upwards toward the top of the knife, not outwards away from the scale. By following the contour of the handle the blade will open easily and flick like lightning.
What GB940Rookie said, although I think that the BMK F&F issues have been largely resolved. I'm not a big fan of the reverse tanto blade shape on the 940, but it is fairly useful and does lend strength to an otherwise narrow profile. My 2 cents:
1) 940-2
Lightweight for size, disappears in pocket, open construction, fun to fidget with if that’s your thing. Good warranty. Sometimes hit or miss with fit & finish.
2) Sage 5
Spyderco quality, fun to fidget with, fair warranty, too big to be a small knife and too small to be a large knife(tweener)
3) Delica, compared to the others, meh
ZT 0450 would be a great choice. Slender, like the 940, with a pointier blade if you prefer that style. The downside for office use might be that it's a flipper--"OMG, a switchblade! That's illegal!" It flips out easily, but rather discreetly without a huge thwack.
I remember comparatively checking three of my similar, smallish flippers last month for that very feature you mention, rje58. My NeOn-UltraLite can be one-hand opened in a manner similar to my CRK Mnandi--thumb-forefinger pinch followed by a thumb sweep. The Giant Mouse GM3 can be opened similarly--not as easily, but two-hand opens with a pinch or using the nail-nick with no problem. The ZT0450 has a much stiffer detent, very little blade-spine protruding in the closed position, plus most of the spine is swedged making it impossible for me to open in any manner other than with the flipper. Most, if not all, of my flippers can be manually pinched open if there are sheeple around at the time who might be frightened by a person with a small hand tool. Just pull the blade open instead of flipping it open.
