EDC Overflow - How do you carry it all?

I have considered having a tailor make me a vest that would look OK on a shirt and tie (no big outside pockets) but with several inside pockets distributed so as to not bulk much. Fortunately where I work I can usually wear a fishing vest.

Hey all-

After much refinement, my system is as follows with some justifications included:

System Container: small MountainSmith fanny pack purchased for $20 at LL Bean. Discrete and sharp looking, streamlined, great pockets, yellow lining for easier spotting of items, great straps, tough.
Knife sheath: SOG sheath horizontally mounted (has loops) on fanny pack strap and lock stitched for no movement-- allows quick access, invisible carry method, can fit my Air SOG, Gerber Air Ranger, or Kershaw Blur no probs, quick and secure carry. I only carry one at a time!
Phone: Yep, it's an older StarTac but works good. Clips to belt as shown. Secure.
Light: My Scorpion or Nitrolon lights are too big and bulky. I use a two AAA Browning light- adequately bright and lightweight. Streamlined too for easier carry. On keychain usually rides a Photon light backup.
Keychain: Screw drive key blade (forget where I got it), Micro Dot SOG, small Swiss Victorinox.
PDA: Not for me! Too heavy, bulky, needs recharging/batteries, and I don't really need it. I just use a slim Hallmark date book, taped with clear tape to be durable. Great system for me eight years running!
Additional items: Papermate pens, earplugs (loud places everywhere!), comb, leather coin purse, Kelty nylon wallet with some first aid items, chapstick.

Biggest consideration for me: Weight. If it's heavy or bulky, you'll start leaving it at home. Take the essentials, streamline your carry method as much as possible, watch the weight of each item and you can't go wrong!

Yes, that's exactly right. They're both side by side. From a distance both items blend together. I've been working in the same department for over 10 years, so my habits are well known, but every now and then someone I've known for a few years suddenly exclaims "is that a SAK next to your phone?"
Tried it today and it worked great. Either it's not noticable or people aren't really looking at me. Thanks.

I have found that horizontally-mounted belt pouches just don't seem to register with most people. Being overweight probably helps me with that...but it amazes me how people will look right at them and never notice. I wear four of them all the time, including at work, and they have yet to draw a comment.

Hi Frank!

TOB9595: Nice setup! We've had a rash of thefts around the office, so I'd be afraid to carry that way... Cool though!

sygyzy: I used to think that way, until I discovered Bladeforums  Of course now, I firmly believe that I can't possibly leave the house without at least 4 blades on me  Imagine, I might need to cut a piece of string somewhere :D Of course, I hardly use any of my gear, except the SwissChamp and the Micra. I'm just infected, that's all :D

Denix - At least you're honest. That's a good first step. It's ok to be addicted but not okay to deny everything.

Good Evening All-

gajinoz, thanks to the "ping" to this thread with regard to the Maxpedition M-1 pouch and best practices towards dealing with ever-increasing EDC stuff.

Anybody have a picture of the M-1 being used in the field? The Maxpedition site has "static pictures" and measurements, but it would be interesting to see it really loaded-up and what it looks like when attached to the belt. Any views of the back of the pouch would be helpful, too.

Any feelings on use of the Malice Clips that the manufacturer suggests? Thanks all!
