EDC paramilitary after a few months with pics

I have had a para for a few months and it has become one of (if not) my favorite EDC knife. I thought this would be a good chance to show what one looks like after a few months of use. I have cut carpet and cardboard boxes among many other things and it shows very little wear. I think it is one of my best cutters. The blade just seems to slide through anything in its way and sharpens up very nice on the sharpmaker at 30 degrees. After getting it I opened it repeditly while watching tv for a week or so to break it in, and now it is smooth as butter.

Thanks for looking,
John

Nice pics!
I agree: the para is a great cutter.
Am eagerly awaiting a 2007 update!

Thanks john now I want that Para-Military even more:p ;) .

Oh, by the way how do you like the clip? Does the knife ride to high out of the pocket?

Pretty much how mine looks also John. I was at first a bit concerned about the black coating on the blade, but it seems to be pretty tough stuff!

I don't mean to high jack a thread, just thought a picture might help. I don't think the Paramilitary rides much higher than some of the other Spyderco knives in the line up, yet I always hear people commenting on the high riding Military and Paramilitary. As this picture shows, the Milie, which is similar to the Para, rides about as high as the beloved Endura. Those are some sweet looking Paras, sure you guys aren't pampering them:D

I also agree the clip does not sit to high. I dont like for my knives to sit real low any way. The para seems to fit in the pocket just fine and it is easy to deploy. To be honest I really dont mind the tip down carry either, and it has grown on me. I am sure it will become your EDC.

Ron that sure is a beautiful knife you have there. I am really suprised at how well the coating has held up. I would say it is the best coating I have seem in a long time.

Thanks,
John

Spyderco does a better black coating than Benchmade hands down. I have a old Delica 3 that has the blade coated black. I have used it quite a bit and it only recently has started to show signs of wear. I have even cut sand paper with it and it hasn't worn off the finish. Compare that to my Benchmade 885SBT that started to wear as soon as I started using it!

I used to hate the black coating but I like it on Spydercos. I wish they offered it on more models. I would like a black bladed CF Military.

Second that statement, look at my benchmade after cutting one time through a one gallon soft plastic plant container compaired with the rest of the knives. I've done the same with all the others except for the Subcom. Can you pick it out?

Very nice pictures John! Im jelous...lol, I have an Endura 4 I often EDC but I have wanted soem new Spydies in my EDC rotation and I might just have to look for a military now..

WOW I nevewr knew BM'c coating was so weak.

I have a 9050 and the coating has done ok, but it started coming off in one spot on the inside where nothing would come into contact with. I am not sure if it was just an area that did not get a good coating or what, but It has nothing on Spyderco's black coating.

BTW I am glad I only own one knife by BM with black coating, now that I have seen the light.

Thanks,
John

I don't mean to suggest that all Benchmade black costings are poor. They have some knives that really hold up and some that don't. I am not sure what the difference is but it is not across the board.

Every Spyderco OTOH that had a black coating seemed to hold up very well.
