I’m going to buy a Mini Griptilian from Cabelas and wonder what the preference is for blade style; plane or partially serrated?

Thanks for the help.

All the minis I have are PE. The blade is too short IMAO for either part of a CE blade to be useful for my cutting needs.

Go plain edge. There's a thread on serrations around here somewhere, and it's been my experience that many serrations are too course and bumpy to cut anything well. Most of the time they're on the back of the knife, where cutting in a pain, anyway.

If you want decent serrations, get a Cold Steel or a Spyderco. They have the best serrations of any knife make. My CS knives can cut paper smoothly, almost never need sharpening and, when they finally do, are easy to sharpen with a Lansky dogbone sharpener. Last week I tried to cut various materials with CRKT serrations and it was useless. If you're sawing through bone, fine, but then having the serrations on the back half of a 4-inch blade aren't much help at all.

Get a plain edge.

Plain edge for me.

As another poster mentioned, the cuting surface is short anyway...why make it shorter with the addition of ineffective serrations?

Welcome to BF Fishstalker ;)

if you want to see all the views, controversy/fun on this subject, put "plain serrated site:bladeforums.com" in google search and enjoy!

No half and half either all the way serrated or all the way plain. Combo edges are a very poor compromise.

plain edge.

imho partial serrations are useless unless ya cut a lot of rope, if thats the case a full serrated knife might would be a better way to go.

i dont like partial serrations on really anything.
