EDC Plane or Partially Serrated?

I have a 4" Benchmade DeJaVoo partially serrated.

I think it's pretty crappy that benchmade will sharpen the plain portion of the blade, but is unwilling to touch-up the serrations. It doesn't affect me since I use my sharpmaker on it, but it still hacks me off.

I have to say that for a knife you plan to work hard with, it is really nice to be able to have the option of setting the plain tip up for a push cut, and have the serrations available for getting after ropes and cord. YMMV.

If I had it to do over again I think I would go plain edge.

+1 on getting a spyderco Delica of endura if you want a serrated blade (get ZPD while you're at it).

Thanks for all the comments. :) I ordered the plane mini griptillian D2 from Cabelas tonight. Go figure that it's back ordered. Can't wait to get it.

Most planes are too large for EDC. :D

But seriously...

I prefer plain edge, or fully serrated in addition to a plain edge. On a partially serrated knife, there isn't enough serrations to give me any real benefit.

Plain edge for me.

Ok, I guess I'll be the heretic here and say combo edge. For EDC, you will normally be using it for lots of different tasks. Having the serrated part of the blade for cutting ropes, strings, and other stuff is really useful. I wouldn't go with fully serrated, as that is only really useful for specialized tasks, and you lose the versitility of the combination edge. Remember, this is for EDC, not gutting large animals, or slicing paper to impress people. You want something that can do a little bit of everything.

PE for me! See? (although I must admit there are a few things that are cut better with serrations, also they stay sharp much longer between touchups.)

I have always liked the plain edge but maybe that is because I am old school (and there was not serrated pocket knife blades when I was growing up).
