Hope all are well. Would you guys recommend the Case jack swell center or peanut knife for an every day carry and is bone better than synthetic? Sorry will be my first pocket knife.

First, welcome to the porch. You have found the finest corner of the internet because of the people. Pull up a chair and stay a while.

I have carried a peanut off and on for many years. It was my edc for stretches of a year or more. It’s is small, but does nearly everything I ever need a knife for. Its size means I can carry it comfortably and never notice it or think of it until I need it. Read The Cult of the Peanut thread, the peanut has a dedicated following for a good reason. https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/cult-of-the-peanut-members.931548/

Since it’s your first knife, I suspect you’ll find that a peanut will be amazingly useful. It’s infinitely better than no knife at all. You will be amazed at how often you find a use for it and you won’t imagine how you survived without it.

Regarding stainless vs CV…I think most people on this forum prefer CV (or carbon steel). It is more traditional, shows character over time and takes a nice edge. But knives are a hobby for us. We enjoy the maintenance.

When I give a knife to someone who doesn’t consider it a hobby, I always choose stainless. It is easier for them to enjoy the knife without worrying about it.

Finally, I like the feeling of bone but the synthetic covers are good too.

In summary, I recommend a stainless peanut.

Please do let us know what you choose.

I’ll tell ya what. If you’ll PM me a mailing address for you, I’ll send you a Peanut pattern knife. Unfortunately it’s not a Case brand but it’s good quality and smooth, easy opening with bone handles.

Bravo.

Lmao. Good times

I would recommend a Case medium stockman. It gives you three blade shapes to try and is a very nice size to carry. The medium stockman was my first knife and it did all I needed of a knife and was my only knife for the early years of my youth. Mine developed a dark gray patina on the blades over time and was a dependable knife. I wish I still had it. 😊 This one is a fancier version than the one I had, but, gives you a reference.😊

Or if you prefer stainless and delrin for durability
The buck 303 is pretty similar and fills the same role
