EDC Question.

Since moving back to NYC I've had to wear suits and or dress slacks. Most of the pants in the right front pocket have a small pocket within and that's where I usually place the my knife - after lurking in this forum for a while I got into the traditional designs - typically a large stockman or a boker copperhead. Today I decided to try this combo out after looking at this thread the last few days. SAK solidier in the small pocket and a Kershaw Double Duty in the main pocket. Now grant ist's freezing today and wearing heavier material pants but got to say it does carry well.

You know the saying, two heads are better than one?. Well, this applies to knives as well. Multiples are a good thing..

I will tell you right quick, I don't do suits anymore. I haven't for many years now. Getting dressed to go out for me is a nice pair of jeans,
(as opposed to the Levis I have on at the moment) a nice shirt and a sport jacket. So I really can't speak to the dressy thing much.

I normally carry two knives but rarely three, unless I am out in the woods at which point I have more than two. But even then I will typically have two on my person and the rest in the pack.

What I will be carrying on any given day will be one sheath knife(blade at 3 to 3 1/4 inches) and some form of traditional pocket knife, a Trapper, Mini-Trapper, Stockman, or Sowbelly. Although if I am out to dinner in a restaurant I sometimes leave the sheath knife out of the mix.. But its got to be a pretty fancy occasion.

Ya know guys, a combo that has been working very well for me over the last year, is a small pocket knife with a very small sheath knife. A year ago this past December a friend gave me a little Buck Hartsook. I reported on this knife before and how it surprised me. It opened my eyes to a small sheath knife. Sometimes I will attach a small spring clip to the nylon cord at the bottom of the Hartsook sheath and attach the clip to the bottom of the pocket, and drop it in my right pants pocket. Its so flat and light that even in thin dress pants it is unnoticable. To use just pull out. The sheath lanyard is just long enough to clear the pocket top and the knife pulls clear of the sheath. Other times I just wear it on a neck cord under my shirt to hang just above my belt buckle. To accsess I grab it through the last opening in my shirt and pull out.

A small sheath knife can be flatter and lighter than a similar size pocket knife with no nooks and crannys to get dirt in. I've used the Hartsook in place of the peanut, and it does well.

CASE Pen-Knife is an excellent slim knife for pocket use,in yellow handle it seems to work well in all environments.

CASE mini-copperlock is a knife I'm very keen on,versatile and slim.

I know this is the wrong forum for this choice, but Kershaw Scallion is another small but mighty contender.
