This is a question that has puzzled me for awhile. Why rotate knives at all if you like what you carry? I've pretty much carried a SAK for the last 20 years. Rotate... ? Different uses of course. But if they all have essentially the same use, why rotate?

It occurred to me today that people rotate knives because they like lots of knives and the only way to use them is to rotate their availability in your pocket or carry many knives. I recently got a GEC #42 pattern traditional knife and between it and the larger #23, I felt I had to decide "which one" and then park my beloved SAK. I also really like the Spyderco Delica and a number of others. It had to be a decision for me >choosing.... hate making these kinds of decisions!

Well, I don't need to park anything. I can rotate their use and enjoy all of them! You don't know how much of a revelation this is to me. It always had to be a final choice. Of course I say I rotate knives, but I always seemed to have that everloving SAK in my pocket....

How do you feel about a EDC knife rotation and what do you generally rotate and why??

Every knife in my collection is in my rotation. I use them and enjoy them. No safe queens.

I have quite a few large knives that are no longer in production, and every now and then I'll pick one of them for a day or so, not safe queens but seldom carried. I love the Spyderco Military, and thus I got a left handed model so I can always have one on me. This way I can feel free to rotate the knife I carry in my right pocket to whatever inspires me that day.

I always know what I'm going to be doing at work before leaving the house. In addition to carrying a sidearm and a flashlight, two knives go with me everyday. A small 2.5" folder, and a larger folder. Some days my BM 950 will suffice, but there are times when it is going to be a ZT 0200 day. It's not so much a "rotation" thing for me, but more of a take enough knife for the job. I carry enough stuff as it is, so it's good to eliminate half a pound of weight if possible. On the other hand, I would rather not snap a thinner blade by pushing it to hard.

I rotate between 6-8 knives, choosing one each day much like I choose which shirt i m going to wear. Just whichever one i feel like, given my anticipated need for that day.

I have a safe queen (Ritter Mini Grip w/ Wilkins scales) but that's only one.

Some times I want a light knife. Sometimes I want a more substantial feeling knife. Sometimes I want a small discrete knife. Sometimes I want a big Tanto bladed knife.

Carrying just one knife or even one type of knife would be boring.

How I'm dressed for the day will determine which knife or knives I choose to carry (except for the Vic Rambler that is always on my keychain.) It's nice to have a little variety for every occasion... :)

I rotate them based on how I'm dressed, what else I'm carrying, where I expect to be, and what I feel like on any particular day. It's fun.

I EDC a SAK, too, but I like a larger knife, so I also carry a folder with a blade of at least 3.5".

I keep all my sebenzas in a glass bowl by my carkeys.

when I head out I grab whichever calls me.

today it was the large gabon.

no reason other than I am very random and unorthodox.

Blur with jeans or Work pants. SOG flash (small one) with light weight shorts or dress pants. BK14 in lunch bag everyday.

I have two sets of knives: work and not work. They are in seperate drawers, and depending on the day I choose which drawer to open. From there, it depends on mood, what I am wearing, and what I will be doing that day. I don't have any safe queens, but there are some knives that only get carried if I know they will not be pressed into hard duty that day (or they have a friend with them)

I guess I'm a bit more excessive. I don't really rotate. I've always liked to have my toys with me,
and I guess since I've done it since I was a kid, I don't really mind to just pack my pockets
with whatever I like and or fits. I have my LM Wave in a leather sheath on my hip.
It's pretty permanent there. Aside from that, I usually have my ESEE 4, a few Vic SAKS,
my Spyderco Manix 2 XL, and whatever else makes me smile that day.
More knives that I could ever hope to need? Yes it is. Could I probably get by
comfortably with just the Wave most days? I don't doubt it. But I'm happy, within the
local law and not bothering anyone, so why not?

My philosophy? I EDC my newest knife for a couple weeks and then switch to some other knife in my collection. I rotate most of my knives, but some of them are pretty low quality from my earlier collection days. I also EDC for specific situations. Right now I'm on my way to a mission trip in Nashville. My knife? A Spyderco Salt 1, because it won't rust and is pretty sturdy. In other circumstances, I may carry 2 knives. Whatever's newest or my favorite, plus a use specific knife. Either an SAK or a more traditional knife (Opinel #8, Sodbuster, Case Cheetah, etc) for use on food. There really is no method to my madness.

I've got a lot of knives I like, so I rotate to carry and enjoy them all. I also have knives that fit different clothes and activities better than others, so I take those two factors into account as well when choosing my knife for the day.

I carry the knife for the task at hand I might encounter that day. If I am expecting to do a lot of work I pick up my Kershaw Black Horse II as it has a good grip that won't slip out of my hand combined with a large blade and is cheap enough that I don't worry about abusing it. If I am going to one of the 2 nearby cities that have a 3in limit I pick up one of my sub 3in knives instead of risking it. If I need to look good and professional I grab one of the ones that have a deep carry pocket clip so it doesn't attract attention. Beyond that I carry what I feel like carrying.

I carry a rotated sak plus a modern or traditional folder each day. I rotate by their place in my knife roll. Don't want to offend any of them by not taking them out for the day : )

I rotate- who can pick just one?

I like a lot of different knives so I get to carry and enjoy each one a little bit.

I find myself rotating brands. Dress is not a factor, as I always wear jeans, so I pick a brand and then rotate knives within the brand.
