Hey everyone. New here.

I have been carrying a knife everyday for the past 5 years or so, don't remember exactly when. I have been through a lot of knives, and have a decent collection I have fine tuned down.

About 9-10 months ago I got a benchmade 940-1 and it has been love ever since, and have almost carried it exclusively since then. That is until recently when the omega spring in the axis lock has broken for the second time in 4-5 months. In the process of working with benchmade to get it fixed again but I dont know why the spring keeps breaking and is annoying having to send my knife off every 6 months to be fixed and take over a month to get it back.

I am not sure if this is a fluke or what. My mini grip is over 2 years old. No issues. Either way it has me looking for an edc that hits all the points of my 940, just more reliable.

Over the years I have grown tired of seemingly great knives having annoying issues. Like my blur's torsion bar breaking every 6 months.

So I am looking for a new edc with a more reliable, simple action,no assisted openers. Narrower blade,around3-3.5" in length, good steel, decent tip, not too thick, but not a kershaw leek, and a good slicer.

Any suggestions? I love my 940 as it fits all of these but the unreliability isn't cool. Something to be said about lock backs and their longevity.

Budget ~$100 or less

Currently own:
Kershaw Blur, Skyline, Leek
Case mini trapper, trapper, sod buster jr
Buck vantage, spitfire, 112, 501, marksman
Benchmade mini grip, 940
Emerson cqc7a
Victorinox Tinker, cadet

A budget is generally also a good point to address when asking these things, since a whole lot of knives fall into that category anywhere from 50 to 500 bucks.

It gets said every time, but Spyderco Delica or Endura I bet would make you happy:)
Considered. I just wish there was something in between. Endura has a pretty long blade, and the delica does hit the 3" mark but would really prefer towards the 3.5" mark. And I know they'd great knives, I just find it hard to pay 70-80 bucks for a zytel handled midlock. I have a kabar dozier that cost $12 and isn't that much different than a delica build wise.

Cold Steel American Lawman or Ultimate Hunter would probably also be good choices in that category. Not my style, but should fill the requirements if you like lockbacks.

If you want to get into Spydies, I'd try the Tenacious first, gives a good indication if you like the Ergos and Blade Shape in my opinion.

What about a traditional slipjoint?
You make no mention of a clip, one hand opening or a lock being required.

If they are acceptable, I wold look for a GEC Sodbuster, or possibly the new Oregon coming out.

The Endura 4 is pretty comfortable and inexpensive IMO. It seems to be able to take everything I throw at it.

There are a few blowouts in the $120-150 range that might be worth considering from Spyderco and ZT as well. The Clearance sections at the big US sellers like BHQ and KSF are full of good deals not far out of your $100-ish range.

+1 on the Tenacious as well. Great knife for around $40 that would give you a good representation of the Spyderco ergos.

I have a several slip joints, listed above. I love them for novelty more than anything to be honest but I do carry my mini trapper to church and like events where my 940 or blur wouldnt be appropriate but for day in and day out I do prefer 1 hand opening and a lock. I work with my hands for a living so it comes in handy too often.

I've considered the tenacious for a long time. Maybe now is the time to try.

Does spyderco make a very similar knife with a slightly better steel? Spyderco asthetics are hit and miss for me but the tenacious is a good looking blade.

Also typically you're talking softer steel, pinned blade, like a case. Once the blade is worn out, its throw it away and buy a new one

The PM2 HAS been in my mind for a long time too. I know they are more than $100 but may be willing to fork a little more out to get a knife that's going to last me a long time.

Spyderco Polestar

Given your preference for a decent tip, I think you'll ultimately like the Polestar (or down the line a Manix 2) more than than a PM2, I know it's part psychological, but the tip on the PM2 just doesn't instill confidence. I like my knife, I use it around the house regularly because it's a really good slicer with a very handy lock, but I always feel like I'm about the break off the tip. Maybe that's just me.
