Every day carry folding knives, whether modern or traditional, occupy a large percentage of threads in these pages.

How important is to you to have a particular length blade? When does weight factor into your buying decisions?

If your personal choice falls between two options above, vote for the two that covers it.

Please add any relevant comments you like.

If I'm at work, there is a 2" limit on blade length.
If I'm not at work, then 2.5 to 3" is about right. Anything bigger just gets in my way.
example: if I want to trim the flash from a plastic part, then I find a 4" blade is hard to manipulate.

My preferred EDC size is ~3.6” (a large Sebenza) but I’ve carried folders from gent size (~3”) up to 4” blades. Overall, I’m comfortable with blade lengths from 3” to 4” and the weight of the different size knives hasn’t proven to be a problem.

I carry multiples..usually a PM2 or similar sized and a slip joint of some sort in my pocket. The SJ is currently a small one. I'll go that route for a couple of years then they get smaller. I dont need a big knife mostly, just like them.

Usually a 3 knife carry
A small traditional 2” blade
Medium modern folder 3”
An a fixed 3 1/2” to 4”
Building a house, need everything from a pencil sharpener to stout fixed blade

Around 2"-3.5" seem to be where the majority of my traditional folders fall, but I don't really keep much track.

4”+
My Spyderco K2 has a factory length of 4.25” but I trimmed of the upswept tip, now it’s a touch over 4”.

I have been in a transition mode for some months now. A year ago I would have said 3-3.25" as my favorite blade length or essentially Spyderco Native or Delica sized. At first, I went to a smaller SAK (from a 111mm SAK) and a larger modern paired for day to day life. But I found I didn't need the larger knife and only had it with me because I wanted to.

But I transitioned to carrying a sub-3" fixed blade most of the time (sometimes a little larger) and a small SAK (Small Tinker) which has about a 2" blade in my watch pocket when I wear jeans or similar pants. The small fixed blade gives me strength and higher end steel choices (if I want them) and the little SAK just cuts and is easy to sharpen. I have gotten very comfortable with this two knife approach. It is similar to what I do in the woods except I will have a larger fixed blade. I seldom have a need for a larger fixed blade in the woods but I feel more comfortable having one with me just in case.

Yep. Personally, over 90mm I grab a fixed blade. Folders are a convenience for me.

My sweet spot is 85mm to 90mm as a daily user but I just snagged a sub 3-inch custom Laconico EZC I couldn’t resist.

Two and a half inches is as small as I ever want to go.

Three to three and a half is the norm for me with 3.25 as the sweet spot.

I have never carried a four inch folder that I can remember.

For me 2.8 is about perfect. I just got a Para 3 lightweight and it is about a perfect size knife for my hand and needs that I have found. I even like it better than my 940.
I wanted a Manix 2 so bad but it’s just too big for me. Wish they made a smaller knife with the bearing lock.

I used to carry only 3.5" blades but I find myself going to 3.25"-3.4" lately... most being in the 3.25" length range for more Gentlemen's carry events, like Christmas parties and dress up events.

If I could one all around EDC blade it would be 3.25" Blade with a 4.5" frame lock handle, bearing flipper in titanium and M390... I'm finding a lot of fun with my UTX85 in 3.125" Blade though but I wouldn't go any shorter.

Almost all of the listed sizes, and some that are missing.
As another person stated, my norm is 3 knives: a traditional, a modern folder, and a fixed. Recently, I've been experimenting with 2 fixed blades, and trying to leave either the trad or modern at home (trying, because putting those knives in those pockets is a well established habit).
The trads are <3".
I have little appreciation for small modern folders - they just feel awkward to me. I've finally gotten used to 3.25" blades; so that's my starting point... but my preferred range is 3.5-3.75"
I have long preferred 3.5-4.25" fixed blades; though I now often carry smaller, and occasionally larger.

The odd thing is, while I feel naked if I don't have at least 1 knife on me, I rarely NEED a knife in my day to day. I can go days without even thinking about using one...so I habitually carry 3, and it makes sense to me. <shrug>
