All three of the knives in my RFP have blades under 3”. I do not need blades longer than that. For that matter, I don’t need to carry three knives, but I like to.

Between 3 an 3.5 inches for me.
Weight is important too.
At this time 4.7 oz is max.
The length of the handle has also to be considered: comfy - not to long.

3 to 4 inches. Sometimes I carry my Resilience (4.25), but I carry my crooked river or contego a lot, and generally something smaller with it (3.5 and under).

I don't need anything that big, a sak or small slip joint would work, but I like what I like.

The old saying goes that you can do small tasks with a big knife, but you can't do big tasks with a small knife. There is truth to that, but with a little creativity you can usually get things done. In interest of precise control I prefer right around a 3" blade but will use up to 3.5" if I need that much blade.

My current EDC is Byrd Cara Cara 2.
It is fairly large and looks stabby. But no one cares if I use it in the office.

I work in an all-female (except me) office in Los Angeles. I thought they would freak out, so at first I carried Victorinox Classic SD. But contrary to my belief, no one cared.

I usually always have at least 2 knives on me- a small traditional or SAK cadet, and a larger folder between 3.25-3.75". With the folder, a lot of my choice is based on how it carries more than blade length. For instance- my ZT 0640 with a 3.75" blade carries easier than my Manix 2 with a 3.37" blade, because of the profiles. It sure is nice to have choices in multiple blade lengths!

For me, it depends on what I'm doing that day. At my main job, usually a large CRK and a slip joint. If I'm at my side job, it's a large CRK and one of many work knives I've got, the largest being the Spyderco Police or Military. Sometimes, having a larger blade makes things more convenient.
