I've been locking around for a good EDC knife. I've been looking at the buck rush, buck tempest, sirus, and omni hunter and even alpha dorado. The tempest and sirus I belive are almost the same thing.
I would use it for anything from cutting boxes to cutting rope :)
I dont really care about the size of the blade, nore the carysystem.
The steel of the blade, doesnt matter either but would preffer 154cm.

I dont know if the "asap" tenchno is durable, but for an edc probally dont matter.

Would appreciate any suggestions! thanks!! :D

dude,Welcome.I like the Dorado but the guys here are raving about the Vantage Pro.
Have you seen the new knives from Buck? Better look before you buy.DM

I think of the choices you listed I would definetely go with the Alpha....

Seems to be a well made knife especially if it might see some heavier duty use.
Plus, the Rosewood versions are just sweet to look at :D
IIRC, the current versions are 154 and the earlier versions were ats-34

EDITED: Good point Dave, the new ones seem to be a lot of knife for the money

I like the Alpha, carry the 279 rubber handle every day to work and the 277 rose wood on weekends. I even have the 277 with a walnut grain it looks good.

I have all those knives with the exception of the Omni. I also have the Vantage Pro and Vantage Avid. The Pro has S30V and G10 scale and is my choice for everyday carry right now. It would be an excellent choice for a fella looking for one pocket/clip knife and it's priced right for its features.

The Alpha Dorado is a heavy knife for its size but very tough and the Tempest/Sirus has one of the best blade designs ever (at least for me). I'd put the Tempest slightly ahead of the Alpha as my second choice.

This knife was not on your list but the Alpha Folding Hunter is a belt knife that is a superb piece of design and engineering. Its big and very sturdy; just a fine knife.

Of course, don't forget the 110 if a belt knife is doable for you as a EDC.

I'm EDC'ing three at the moment. CS112 in S30V and stag (my mod)in front pocket, Vantage Pro clipped to back right pocket and a BG42/G10 110 on the belt. I tend to grab the Vantage most often and probably could manage with just one...well certainly could manage with just one but I like my Bucks so I carry three.

Funny about things like this. I normally edc a 302, front left pocket, a 112 in a sheath on my belt and a 110 in my left, rear pocket in a pocket sheath. Saturday, due to changing clothes three or four times, I found myself outside, needed a cutter, reached for the 112, not there. Reached for the 302, not there. Reached for the 110, not there. I had to stop what I was doing and go back to the house and finish getting dressed.

To answer the question, it doesn't matter what you carry as long as it's where you need it when you need it. This just doesn't happen to me very often and I'm embarrased by it.

So what I got out of all that is that the vantage is pretty much the best?
I have made my conclusion that i preffer the dorado, or the vantage out of my examples.
Thanks

To me, "best" is a subjective term. It depends on who you ask and when you ask. I have several "best edc" Bucks but it depends on the day and what I plan on doing.

Right now, I'm carrying a sweet little 501. I sometimes carry it in a sheath on my belt or in my pocket if I don't want it to show.

Of the three (Tempest, Sirus, Rush), I prefer the Rush because it doesn't take up so much room in my pocket when it's clipped inside. the other two are just a little too large to suit me.

Don't know about the Vantage, I don't own one as they don't really appeal to me, but if I was looking for a new tool for on the job, I might consider one.:)

Yadude,

In the end you will buy what you want. So.....FWIW, I carry a Tempest everyday as my main EDC (the ASAP will raise eyebrows sometimes with the sheeples). It must be kept clean as all assisted opener knives can be fowled by pocket lint and slow down or fail if dirty. The Tempest I have has been put to the test for about the last 3 years and has never failed me yet...I think you should buy one for your pocket.

Do you have the 420hc or 154cm?

I have a TNT Mayo 172 that is sweet, if you have money to burn, but I really really like my Vantage Avid 346. The 346 has a thicker and slightly bigger blade than the 172 TNT, and the action is smoother opening & closing. I can't tell any difference yet between the 13C26 Sandvik and the S30V, both are fantastic.

Nothing like a 110 for utility. If it's CPM154 you want, Bass Pro carries a special 110 with that blade, too. The Gen5 fb of last year, #005RWS, has the same blade material, too.

I like S30V - my #347 Vantage Pro is a keeper.

Dude,

IMHO you wont know what to EDC until you get a few and try em out. I thought I'd never carry anything but a slimline 500 Duke(still my favorite knife) but my wife got me a 110 which was my "during the week" EDC for 4-5 years keeping the Duke for shorts and Church. As I watch this forum and buy based on the great info these guys give, I find myself unable to EDC anything in particular and have a 7-10 knive rotation based on circumstance, clothing and mood. So to make a short story long, listen to these guy and keep collecting I bet you find the same thing(no such thing as too many Bucks:D)

dude,I've heard that about linerlocks as well by guys who check in here once a month or less and they'll down everything then are gone.Watch the guys that are here alot. They actually use them and know what particular knives are capable of and use them hard.
We don't traffic in smoke screens.Hillbilly uses his Alpha alot and hard.I use mine alot but not hard and have found no problems w/ the linerlock. If you like them take one out for a test drive this weekend.DM

If you can find one, look at a 179 Hi Lo, or a 174 Cutback if you like a shorter blade and handle. I alternately EDC both and they have held up well and taken a beating. 420HC is easy to sharpen up.

Yeah, China, but I can live with that.

the clips have held their spring tension real well. Unlike a way more expensive other brand that I continually had to bend back into place, and it was $130 new... it is long gone and the Bucks are still here.

The 174 and 179 are frame locks and have never failed me.

my 2 cents- I have carried a model 55 in my pocket for about four years. It did everything I wanted it to do and it was a lock back (I do not personnaly like pen/jack/slip joint type knives that do not lock). I began carrying a model 340 Vantage about two months ago. It is the best (small) general use EDC knife I have seen and used in many years. It is not bulky and has handled everything I have used it for. This particular knife has an S30V blade which is only available on the larger model 347 Vantage currently. But, I would not hesitate to carry and use one with a 420HC blade. It is one of the nicest all around knives we have had in a number of years, and I have designed and built a lot of knives over the past few (35) years. A large or small Vantage is a great choice; if you want a lock back, the new Bucklite Max folder is tough to beat. My 2 cents.
