EDC Tanto Assited Open Folder.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, or if I should open another thread...

Does anyone know the knife laws in Ohio?

Are Automatic Open knives illegal?
The ORC 2923.20 A(3) only mentions selling or furnishing "switchblade" knives, not buying, owning, or carrying.

Is there a max blade length?
The ORC doesn't make any mention of it.

Only asking because for the $100 price range Autos fit in there and I want to get one with a decent size blade.

Thanks!

As fast as assisted opening knives are, there is no reason to even look at an auto if there is any question of legality. Also, is there any practical reason you want a tanto? Or is it just that you think they look cool? I'm not trying to rip on tantos or your taste in knives, the reason I ask is that by limiting yourself to tanto points you are leaving out a huge amount of very good knives. Also, I personally do not find a tanto point to be a particularly useful configuration for edc.

Also, truthfully, in your price range I would stick with kershaw or benchmade in terms of tantos. Gerber and crkt are generally very low cost entry level knives with subpar materials and construction. In my opinion nobody does assisted openers as well as kershaw. If you can break yourself from the tanto thing I think the ZT 0350 sounds perfect and you can find blemished models for $85 from kershawguy.

Sog makes a few that might interest you, like the twitch and the trident. ~50 bucks iirc

I was just looking around and watched a video for the CRK M16-14S (http://www.crkt.com/M16-14-Special-Forces-Black-Tanto-AutoLAWKS-Combo-Edge)
I loved how it opened.

Anyone have any opinions on this one?
I found a few for below $60.
I am just worried that the base is to thin and when the blade opens it hit or brushes the palm of you hard.

Have the M16 14sfg.
The CRKT SF knives are awesome but very pants dependent if you want to "wave open the blade". Had issues where the "wave flipper" tries to open the blade but the "Index finger flipper" pulls the blade closed again. (Filed it smooth to resolve)
Don't have this problem with my "wave" modded ZT

Thing I hate about the M16 SF range they good for nothing but stabbing

No such thing as "military" steel, or "surgical" steel:foot:

I did not know that.
My one knife has it printed on it's blade, so I assumed it was a real thing.

Thank you for the review on it.
I had heard the flippers were a bit of a problem.
I think I am going to stay away from that knife then.

I liked the look of tantos and the history of them, but I think i'm willing to convert to another blade style.
I am going to create another thread asking for a non-tanto EDC after searching around a bit to make sure it's not an exact double post.

I suggest you stay a way from Gerber, especially models made in China. They are not worth the money.

Thank you!
I heard that multiple times, I am going to stay away from Gerber all together.

This thread has really gave me a lot of new information.
I am going to look for a non-tanto blade now, since it is really limited market at the price I would like with the style I would like.
I will stay away from Gerber and the M16.
I also really refined what I like and want to get out of my EDC.

Going to open a new thread looking for any blade style EDC with a some specifics that I liked.

Thank you everyone for all of your help.
