Greetings. New here from NC.

Although state law doesn't specify lenghth, a lot of cities have a 3" limit.

I currently EDC a Kershaw Scallion but looking for an upgrade.

Thanks for the input.

BoltsFan...The Scallion is a great little knife. Have you found that it comes up short in some of your EDC tasks? Would be helpful to know what types of things you regularly use your knife for -- such as opening envelopes, cutting cardboard, cutting heavy rope/twine, light prying, etc...

Spyderco UK penknife is under 3" as is Spyderco urban, both however are slipits, Spyderco's version of slipjoints. Very safe to use and high quality. Urban has 2 9/16" blade and UK penknife has 2 15/16" (Both G10 and S30V blade or lightweight FRN with Gin-1 steel version)

Thanks for the quick response.

Brew- I would like something longer mainly for self defense. Also the safety is a bit of a pain to deal with so speed would be nice. The Ker Blur is the one I almost went with. But ED use is cutting cord, opening boxes and lately a lot around the garden.

i have recently gotten my hands on a couple of REAL nice Spydies: Delica 4 FFG (2.875") and the Centofante 3 (3.125") are very nice in FRN with VG10 blades. However, the real winner (imho) is the Sage (3.0") with the carbon fiber scales and CPM S30V blade. Pick one up and you'll be hard pressed to put it down.

P.S. Just got back from a trip down your way...Boone, Blowing Rock, Linville, etc. Love it down there, but it does get mighty hot!

never handled a sage, spyderco's are nice I have a few but to be perfectly honest I'm not at all impressed with the Delica's deployment ( i have 3), I really think the persistence deploys better and is half the price..

I'd say also consider the Izula, its not a folder but will fit in pocket or belt nicely..

Sounded like OP wanted to stay under 3" blade length because - "a lot of cities have a 3" limit." Blur is a great knife with lightning fast deployment, but the blade is 3.375".

ok then how about an o-so-affordable Kershaw Skyline... 2.2oz and is my goto edc folder.. small, lightweight and can handle the abuse..

Don't know, Rob...Would they put you in the slammer over 0.125"?? Love my Skyline -- don't even know it's there til I need it. Like a pocket razor!!

Hmmm...OK, an OD-1 for my last offer. 2 15/16ths blade length.

Dude. I also love that size. I carry an Al Mar SLB.
You might want to look at an Al Mar Falcon Ultralight.
Also very nice folders are:
Benchmade mini-Presidio Ultra
Benchmade Doug Ritter Mini RSK MK1 (www.aeromedix.com)

leeks and od-1's are very stabby knives...i'm like'n the chill right now (combo blade, of course...)

I just picked up a Buck 55 today. Blade length is 2 3/8". Very nice knife. Rides in the pocket un-noticed.

How about a Kershaw JYD...$25.00 bucks at knifeworks, 3" flipper, framelock.

OOPs sorry, did I go over the 3".. never pay mind to me as I live in a 4" world, always have I guess I always will.. If the blade doesn't make it across my palm I'm good to go..
