I haven't posted here in a while, but my EDC has remained pretty much the same for the past three plus years...

Omega Pacific carabiner with hair ties, keys to my house and my Impreza.
Spec Ops THE Wallet Jr. - I've had this thing for about five years, it looks a bit beat up but it's holding up just fine.
Cellphone
Benchmade 710 - since January '06
Vic Soldier - since sometime in 2003
4gig iPod Nano - best $200 I've ever spent, it goes with me everywhere and it's as much a part of my EDC stuff as a knife.
The pen is a metal bodied Pilot G2.

I bought a 8g touch last year for the wife. She did not take to it, so I started to play with it. Bought some Denon c452 headphones to go with it and........long story short I'm with you! I CAN NOT imagine going anywhere without it. Best investment EVER. That little sucker does everything. Now they have that iphone...hmmmmmm????????????

They still can't cut my food .

Linux, normally it'll go either in the small slip and then gets thrown in my EDC bag (USN SPartan bag or a LightFighter RAID Pack) or I can fit it in the cargo pocket of most of my trousers.

In my office I have two 19" screens set to run with my large HP laptop but I find the EeePc gets plents of use when I am out doing advance scene work and the like. It's great for when I am on the move.

The iPhone is a neat toy, and when they first came out I wanted one. But after playing with one in a store, they're just too big. I don't carry a lot of stuff in my pockets and a phone like that is just too much.

The headphones in the picture with my iPod were fairly expensive (at least I consider $30 for earbuds expensive) but I unfortunately don't use them too much. My iPod plays through the car stereo (Alpine CDA-9884 headunit running into really crappy stock Subaru speakers :(). That headunit was almost as good an investment as the iPod, gives full functionality on the unit itself (scroll through songs, playlists, etc... you can even search) and charges to boot. And I've got all the cables running under the console trim next to the shifter so it's all hidden... never have to touch the iPod.

To get back on topic... I probably used my BM710 to open both the iPod and the box the headunit came in :D.

What uses other than music are there for iPods? I am seriously thinking of getting one.

I use mine for movies, tv shows, and games. there's only maybe 50 songs on mine. Just enough to survive a road trip or a boring wait in an office, etc....

Well for starters, you can use it as a portable hard drive without interrupting the music player function. You can drag and drop music files and data files over, even Word documents, and it will store them in the appropriate places.

In fact, text documents are readable on the screen of the iPod. You can't edit them, but you can read an entire document this way.

You can also store your schedule/calender, and sync it from your computer, download games to play on it. I think the new Touch series has even more capabilities--including WiFi access--since they're basically just stripped iPhones.

If you get an iPod touch, you can surf the web, watch movies, receive and send email, use the thousands of applications out for it now, O, and listen to music.

The iPod touch or the iPhone? I'm very interested :D If I can do all of that with the iPod touch, I can just stick with t-mobile and use the touch for the internet when I'm away from home :p
