EDC... Why more than one?

I always have two knives on me.

Currently my Vapor clipped in RF, and today a Case Mini Stockman in LF.

I am coming around to a multi tool however... it would probably be in addition!

I pretty much just open boxes, cut tie wraps and hoses, and just generally play with my knives!

Wouldn't want to mess up my Vapor though!

I carry two because there's one that I could borrow out, and if it happens that if I dropped one, I'll still have another when i need it.

gentlemen... thank you!

These are exactly the replies I was looking for... I wasn't thinking of profession, so now, more than one EDC makes sense (not for me, I'm not even allowed to carry a knife at work
:( )

Thanks fellas.

My God Dave what, kind of job do you have where they won't let you carry a knife at work?

This makes me curious, so now I must start a new thread, thanks to you.

Hi T.

I work for a Large Cellular Phone company that most of you will probably know... Name starts with a V and is not Verizon, as well as a small Microbrewery here in Bellingham, WA. Boundary Bay Brewing Company.

I have a very cool Supervisor at my job at Voicstream, as when one of the ladies I work with saw me cutting duct-tape with a tiny SOG keychain knife yelled "Dave's got a KNIFE!" Well, I was informed by my supervisor that that was frounds for termination. Like I said though, she was VERY cool and just told me not to take my keys out of my pocket in the future.

It SUCKS! I just got my mission wallet, and broke it in to carry my Small Sebenza... and now, If anyone sees it, I could be fired on the spot. I have thhought about downnloading the Washington State WAC's to bring into work and show that I a well within the law to carry a small pocketknife, but I was told that it does not matter. Company Policy forbids any.... get this "WEAPONS" on site.

I would LOVE to put a chunk of firewood or someting on my desk and say "Hey.. look how much damage I did to this chunk of firewood with my pocketknife! NOW... LET'S SEE WHAT i CAN DO... With these Scissors and heavy desk stapler you so kindly provided me with... hmmmm??"

I hope I do not come across a some sort od sociopath here, but It just kills me that I can't carry a knife with a 1.75" blade... but they ISSUE me a pair of Fiskars (sharp) scissors with 'blades' of 4+ inches.

I don't get it!!!!!

I work in a building with a "no weapons" sign on each entrance. I always carry a pocket knife. Under Virginia state law a pocket knife is not a weapon. The building owners have never published a more restrictive definition of weapon.

For your own protection you may wish to take the matter up with your company security department. If they have a written policy that defines weapons differently than state law you need to be aware of what is in it so that you don't get fired over something trivial such as the blade in a nail clipper or Leatherman Micra. If the company does not have a written weapons policy that differs from state law your supervisor needs to be (gently, respectfully) corrected. BTW, are there any letter openers on executives' desks? ;)

I carry the Spyderco Endura and it's trainer (to fart around with in the office); a Polkowski Amigo neck knife; the Mad Maxx and maybe my TOPS night chaser. It's not so much that I "carry" them, but that I bring them to work, put them on my desk and admire them as I do my thing.

I'll practice stuff with the trainer, work-in the flicking ability of the Maxx, unsheath the fixed blades and trying to work up the nerve to excercise my civic rights to carrying them on my belt up here in the Northeast. Such is the pleasure of downloading large files on a 56K modem; you get some time to mess with the steel and still think I'm "working."

I just like them and will probably rotate them with some other knives, such as when my large Sabenza comes back from refurbishing at CRK.

Hey, Rev.

Good points. I have read all of the company policies regarding "standards of conduct" and all it says is that "weapons are prohibited"

I just figured I would avoid the issue by not carrying at work... it would be too much hassle to argue. My supervisor however, was very cool. She told me if I was to bring them, just keep them hidden. I have no problem with her at all. She's very cool, and understanding.

Kind of funny how it works though... There are people who have been fired for having a beer at lunch, when the "rule" reads: "no alcoholic beverages may be consumed on company premise without supervisor approval" -- well, the people I know who got fired were miles from our site when they had a brew at a restaurant for lunch.

Ah, well.... life goes o.

Actually, the simple answer for me is: because I can. I own some really great knives and I like to carry them.

iverson - the coolest thing about custom knives is the maker will clean them up for you for a modest fee.

ie - i have a crawford ti kasper folder, and the handles looked terrible, all scratched up, stain on blade, etc - i had carried/cut this knife a lOT, carried it EDC for about a yr, and got it used.

sent it in to pat crawford to re bead blast it, and he also rebuilt the lock, resigned it, and sent me a cool belt sheath for it, it looks like new, all for, get ready, $24!!

its like getting a new knife all over again!!!!!!!!

so use those customs, and if ya scratch them up, send them in and for a little $$ they will look like new.......as long asd ya dont just destroy them of course

My number one edc is a large Classic Sebenza. I also carry a Spyderco Toad, so I always have two knives on me. If someone ask to borrow a knife out comes the Spydie since I sometimes don't know just what the person in question intends to do with the knife! This applys even to my wife. The only person I would trust with handing the Sebbie to is my son, who at 17 KNOWS how to handle Dad's knives!:D

I sometimes carry a third knife. Right now it is a Camillus Cuda MAXX. I carry this in my right front pocket and my sebbie in a belt sheath. I have a MT Halo III comming in that will replace the Cuda for a while and will ride in a belt sheath while the Sebbie goes back in my right front pocket.

Now why do I carry the extra knives? Its not for protection or defense, as the best defense is to RUN;) I carry the Cuda and soon the MT for the "gizmo factor" I can carry them with no problems and since I teach school and am currently out for the summer:D  :D I don't have to worry about carrying an "illegal" knife. I do work part time at the local Super Center in the sporting goods dept. so everybody there is used to seeing me with 3 or 4 knives at a time and don't really give it a thought:cool:

I carry them because I like knives.

I work in an environment that prohibits "weapons" as well. I too had a "incident" where a coworker saw my benchmade leopard cub. It is prety silly.

I called Olympia and requested the WACS for dangerous weapons. Won't be much to stand on if someone gets a wild hair.

After that, I let people gouge at stuff with scissors, keys, etc.
Would offer to open for them, but I wouldn't want to frighten them.....

Sifu... you have a very good point there... no pun intended. I do not yet own a true Custom knife, but I use my small seb with Mastadon Ivory overlay all the time. Good thinking on the refurb factor... I hadn't thought about that. If the artists who make our customs can take a blank of steel and produce such an awesome tool, it probably won't take 'em any time at all to smooth out a scratch or two!

I sent my second hand purchased LEFTY full size Seb to CRK - tuned it up good, sharpened the blade, reblasted the handle and ---- Man-o-man, just like new! Even went and got a CRK sheath to carry it around in!

Boink... I think my Sebenza has been touched up by Chris and the crew more than once (born in 1997). It is still beautiful, plus that stonewashed blade hides any small scratches that may appear.

I have seen LOTS of threads here about the classification of Reeve Knives... Although I have to agree with most of the people here that technically it is not a "custom"... I feel that each of them is produced with great care and a lot of attention to all of the deatails. That is what I like in a knife.. so I don't care if mine is "custom" or not... plus Anne and Chris are quite personable, and I appreciate that.

I have been to local knife shows here and seen "custom" knives that don't even compare at all to a Sebenza. That's why I can't wait to get my TNT!

:) :) :)

My first Custom!! (And I know that it is extremely well made and all of the details attended to.)
