Diggin’ through my semi-retired knife box I came upon a trio of knives that came with a story. It was a pair of DeltaZ 360° Pivot and the Darrel Ralph Osprey, both unique and well made knives. I liked them so much when I originally bought them that I carried nonstop for a couple of years. They both filled a niche for me and were extremely convenient.
So it seems a while back around the early part of 2003, a company came to the attention of the cutlery industry for an all to brief time. Two guys who loved knives got together and started Delta Z knives, Barnaby Zelman and J. Patrick Daily, (Pat) loves knives and wanted to make quality affordable and unique cutlery.
They were off to a great start, I followed them as they started up and even though they were more expensive than I expected, they were a startup company with startup company prices.
As often happens their lives and other businesses required their attention and just about 4 years after they started, they ended. They went out with a bang and discounted they’re remaining stock as much as 80%.
I bought so many of their knives and because of the cost to me, I gave away all but 3 of the 20 or so knives I’d bought.
I kept 2 of the 360° Pivots. A red one a black one shown here and I kept the Darrel Ralph Osprey.
Some closer shots of the 360° Pivot closed.
Here it is with a sharpie and a Schrade tactical pen for comparison.
Felt good to carry the Osprey in my pocket and the 360° Pivot in my shirt pocket again.
