EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

TheFactor TheFactor :cool: MT makes some solid blades with legit edge geometry.

Same here man. Funny thing is, I’m not (haven’t been) into OTFs, autos, coated blades or tantos...and this thing is speaking to me lol! My wife even likes it, and now she want a UTX85, so we’re kinda on the same path going different directions.

Sweet scale on your XM btw.
Couldn’t agree more !
My only Beef with MT is they will void your Warranty if you sharpen the blade.
At least that’s how it was a few years ago unless it’s changed.

Copied from the Microtech FAQ.

They're just protecting themselves from cob jobbers, just as they should.
Key word is improper.

Improper sharpening will void your knife's warranty. In many cases, improper sharpening will damage the blade, causing the knife to malfunction or worse. This type of damage is not covered under our Lifetime Warranty. We believe Microtech knives to be one of the highest quality production knives on the market

Definitely a loop hole to not cover Warranty work. What’s considered improper sharpening? Wrong angle lol ?
How a blade is sharpened unless your using a rock in the back yard shouldn’t have anything to do with malfunctions but that’s just my opinion others mileage may vary evidently.
To my knowledge MT is the only knife manufacturer with this stipulation.
As you would say one must be very careful not to “DICK” that blade up lol.

I overslept this morning and even the coffee isn't helping. I had a knife on my nightstand--my yellow handled semi-serrated Buck--and since it was closer than the two dozen knives in my closet, I stuffed that one in my shirt pocket.

Ya' know, it's seldom that you find a folder that is equally good at slashing a mugger and cutting your toast...

I’ve had several knives go into MT for service that had been sharpened, either by myself or another unaffiliated 3rd party. They still honored the warranty without hesitation every time

Yep. It's almost like a kerfluffle is being made over nothing. :)

Anyway, definitely some gorgeous knives in the last several pages. I'll have to grab a shot of my load-out at lunchtime.

Nice one Fullflat Fullflat !:thumbsup:

Also, they sell a CRAPLOAD of knives and there is a notable lack of search results on "warranty denial" so there's that too. MT hasn't been on my radar much, but from what I understand, their customer service used to be pretty bad, and now it is reported to be pretty stellar. They've given it some attention with notable improvement. And maybe similar to Spyderco and the disassembly issue of old, they continue to revise and change over time...hopefully continually for the better.

We should probably hop over to the Auto sub to continue this discussion if warranted ( :) ), but just to add a little more, here's the wording from the Warranty page. Sounds like common sense to me:

"BLADE SHARPENING
We understand that some customers may prefer to maintain their own knives. The warranty will remain in effect so long as the blade is not improperly sharpened and the handle is not damaged or stripped due to disassembly, determined at our discretion. If you void your warranty, parts and services may still be available for purchase based on availability.

Do not sharpen knife if you are not completely sure on the above statement or if you feel the warranty could be compromised."

For some reason my coffee doesn’t want to kick in yet either lol

It appears they have changed the wording on there warranty since I’ve owned them. But regardless it still points to a loop hole to not cover warranty work. Glad to hear there there warranty and CS has improved. Couldn’t agree more definitely it would be a great discussion in the auto section.
Like I said MT does make great knives but that was one of things I didn’t like about there warranty when I owned them in the years past and pushed me away.
