My dad came back on that ship after the evacuation of Saigon. It was surreal taking the tour a few years ago and walking in his footsteps and he even pointed out the hatch door that he split his head open on. Being 6’2” on a ship had to be a bitch.
The 1st photo has me stumped!1 and 4 are wrong.
Yeah, I'm 6'0" and I bonked my head good once. Amazing ship with a lot of history. The maze down below must have been bewildering for new arrivals. Not much for creature comforts unless you've got rank.
The 1st photo has me stumped!
I’m guessing the 4th photo is the predecessor of the Blackbird, but I have no clue what it’s called.
Damn, I thought Hornets had square intakes!F/A-18.
A-12 Oxcart. CIA plane, only one seat and a bit smaller than the SR-71. Very short time in service (or maybe that's what they want us to believe), but lead to the SR-71.

I had no clue about the A-12. I’ll have to check that out sometime.
Haha! That’s one hell of a slap in the face.Super Hornets do.
Very interesting history. Last time we were there (San Diego Air and Space Museum, at Balboa Park) a museum volunteer who worked on the A-12 and SR-71 raked our ear off for nearly an hour about them. One of the craziest things about them is that they're like 90% titanium, which we had very little of, but the USSR had lots. So through shell companies bought the needed titanium from the very commies that we were using the planes to spy on.
