I've done a bit of wiring myself--not on the job of course, but on my places here and in Vermont--though I'm not inclined to be showing any of that work off. 
Still, none of that has caught fire, yet. 
I'm sure your boy will have great time scrambling all over what you guys built.
There's nothing better than sharing jobs and projects with your kids. My three sons have all worked with me. My oldest is now an electrician, my middle boy transitioned to stage carpentry and is now a technical designer in a scene shop in NYC. K studied architecture and works for a local design/build firm in town now, but he and I still get to work jobs together from time to time.

Do the suds help loosen the residue?
Perhaps, I used to do whiskey rocks but that made for an early afternoon haha. Beer is a much better option while cleaning.

I have to admit I like shooting much more then cleaning. But with that being said a cold beverage does make cleaning more enjoyableGun cleaning after a good range day! Shot 23 on the trap range and ran some drills with the lightweight AR rig and pistol. Maybe I'm weird I love cleaning my guns with an ice cold beer.

I have small BRKs which are my favorites at present. You may check/browse some dealers’ sites, they have better prices and discounts for the same models.
On my list are 2-3 Lt.Wright knives, but not just yet.
