I didn't think too much of them when I first saw them. I realized what all the fuss was about when I got one and used it, though. They're probably one of the most utilitarian shapes I've come across. I end up using the area more near the tip to cut stuff that I'd normally use the belly of the blade for.
I also use a razor knife/utility knife a lot when doing stuff around the house. I've always thought those were really useful and it didn't dawn on me that those are basically wharncliffes, too.
