EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Today, I'm going old school. Or rather, a new take on an old classic and just a classic period. The Proper around the house this morning and the 710 for when I go to work later.

Carrying the Southard at the left of first pic. Just got it in the mail today and put the new scales on it. Came with a Spyderco factory edge at which point I realized I am an edge snob. I haven’t bought a Spydie in a while and I can’t believe the way this knife came used to be what I considered sharp. I got it razor sharp now.

As for the Mosquito Tactical Puppy (Maxace) I just got that yesterday. A weird front flipper to be sure. It has some quirks where the manufacturer should have known better. I don’t think I will really enjoy this knife until I get a pocket clip put on.

The grinds on those southards look fairly different by the sharpening choil. Has the middle one been sharpened more?

I’m glad you brought that up. The one on the left is essentially a factory edge. The one in the middle has been sharpened more. However it came with not only that recurve by the sharpening choil but also a tiny almost imperceptible recurve by the tip. The tip recurve has been sharpened out.

There seems to be alot of variation in the Southards’ grinds. Some have one recurve by the sharpening choil. Some have a double recurve by the tip and the choil. Some have paper thin tips. Some have thicker tips.

Look at these ones. On the black you can see the recurve by the flipper tab and also the very slight almost imperceptible recurve that turns the tip to point downwards more.

This one has no recurves.
