EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Almost 70 degrees out
So snuck the Crotch rocket out for a little ride and took my Delica along.
Hope all are having a wonderful and relaxing Sunday afternoon

Today was one of those days when things didn't really go as planned, though most changes were beneficial save for my team losing in the closing seconds as they appeared to be driving for the winning touchdown.

My son the sparky made an unexpected visit and figured out the board and taps to decrease the blower speed on the new furnace to improve its performance. He also found the one section of basement ductwork that was not cross bent and annoyingly, audibly popping in and out, heralding the new, more powerful blower starting and stopping. I made a little V-spring out of a steel mending plate to wedge that in and stop it bonging.

One thing that was always planned, however, was to carry my new Spartan Harsey NW Coast today and get some pics of it to share after tying up a lanyard last night. I knew that this was a good-sized knife, but was not prepared for how substantial it really is while also being quite elegant in a utilitarian sorta way. I've heard some negativity about the F&F on some of these, but this one is spot on with all the details and little touches on the finish as well as having great lockup, easy thumbstud flicking action, and dead nuts centering. It's plenty smooth, and though it started a bit sluggish it's loosening up after numerous fidget cycles, two drops of W10 NanOil to the pivot, and a dab of FirstLine to the detent ball. Its all-Ti lockbar is wearing in nicely and I can see the shiny result on the lockramp with its touch of graphite being slowly pushed aside. I'm guessing it will settle in at around 40% having come to me at about 30-35.

Anyway, we had some nice light early afternoon as the rain broke up and I got at least a couple decent pics out back.

I like the way the engraving carries over to the lockside, as so many decorated knives are unadorned there.

How are your standoffs on it and is your filler tab flush with the scale? Mine when i received has a gap between the scale and standoff where lights can pass through and the filler tab was raised because of burrs from the hidden threaded holes. Centerind was also off but easily fixed... well i fixed every issue i mentioned.

Beautiful knife and pics. Mine won't be ready til after the new year so I've been enjoying pics of them when they show up on the forum.

I've watched or read everything I can find on the SHF and even one video that went on for 39 minutes ranting about two basically cosmetic issues on his knives. That's right 'knives' even though he had that much to say turns out he had purchased 4 SHF in total.

Glad to hear yours is breaking in well.

The knife is actually very exceptional. BUT it lack of refinement for the lack of better words. For a $525 knife to top it off. BUT when everything is dialed out is very very a nice knife. Spartan Blade seems to have a problem with consistency. Not 2 SHFs is identical.

Thanks for the kind words. I watched that same vid and as it went on and on I kept wondering why the guy was so taken with the SHF while he kept nit-picking it apart. What I did take away was his frustration at their inconsistency but, like you, thought it was odd that he liked it well enough to buy four. In the end, while he made some good points, I left thinking I'm glad he's not someone that's on my client list. :p

I remember you writing that about your knife and figuring that if there were little tweaks needed I wouldn't mind doing what you did with yours. I've actually got a number of high-value knives that have or had a fault or two and am fine with correcting them if I can and don't mind keeping, using, and admiring them even if they're not. I don't subscribe to the idea that, "I paid X amount for this--it's gotta be perfect", 'coz nothing in this world is. For all my flaws, I think my wife loves me anyway, and I don't come cheap.

On the other hand, Spartan may have upped their game as many have hoped. I'm pretty happy with the overall F&F on this one and find it has a lot of little details that please me. If they're still inconsistent, I'm glad I got a good 'un. :)

You'll see, if you haven't noticed already, that I quoted you over at The Official Lanyard Thread as well and added a couple other pics there. And just because I have more...

Yes, if it’s something i fix and/or improve upon, im happy with x amount paid, that makes the knife more special because I put some thoughts and love on it, makes it more personal, imo

Sorry--missed this post of yours after seeing and responding to your second. The standoffs are tight and centering is dead on. The filler tab is ever-so-slightly raised opposite the screw, but this seems natural as it's tied down at just one end and really doesn't bother me. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the F&F and detailing on this one.
