EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Quick backstory to this one....

When I first stumbled upon pics of this knife, I loved almost everything about it...the aesthetics, the size, the Chad Nichols Damascus, the fact that only 50 were being made.....

Then I got to the price, which was a hurdle I wasn’t quite ready to scale. But the ultimate stumbling block for me was the fact that it was an automatic.

Hadn’t really considered one, honestly didn’t have any interest in one. And yet, the pictures remained on my phone. I just loved the aesthetics.

Then a few nights ago I had a dream. It’s a bit foggy now, but the gist of it revolved around a talking duck extolling the merits of automatic knives. Nick Saben was there too, he just said to listen to the duck.

So...to make a long story short, I woke up and bought the knife.

It arrived today, and I gotta say I’m really happy that I listened to the duck. I absolutely love this thing, and pics don’t do it justice.

Anyway, I hope folks get the potentially weak attempt at humor. Big thanks to the real duck here that somehow gave me the nudge I needed. This may be my first auto....but I don’t think it’ll be my last.

I needed a fixed blade and didn't bring one with me so I used it as an excuse to pick up a knife that has always intrigued me but I've never pulled the trigger on. I decided to wade through the sea of despair that is a Central Florida Wal-Mart and grab this gem. Certainly made it worth the trip to the store, quite possibly the best thing in the entire store, and perhaps the best $50 a knife lover can spend. Made my day at least.

Your setting the bar pretty high with the Del Fuego for your first auto. Congratulations, it’s a real beauty. The Duck is smart, The Duck is wise, just don’t blame The Duck when/if you fall down the new auto rabbit hole. Seriously, you did well, Protech make a heck of a good auto, and yours really is gorgeous.

Thank you for the nice words regarding the knife. It’s exceeding my expectations in every way. I felt like a little kid today picking it up at the FedEx facility. Didn’t even have the patience to wait until I got home, so I tore it open in my car.

The anodizing has an almost three-dimensional quality to it that lends depth to the scales and the fit/finish is impeccable. I swear, I just sat there in the parking lot for about 30 minutes chuckling and giggling while deploying the blade over and over again. Felt like a 9 year-old boy discovering dad’s stash of playboys...then heading out to the tree fort to ogle every page.

Ok, maybe that’s not the best analogy I could’ve come up with....but I’m sure you guys can all relate. “New Knife Day” is always a hoot.

Lol, and as far as rabbit holes go....I’m so far underground that I haven’t seen the sun since joining this forum six months ago. At this point, I figure I’ll be living down here well into the foreseeable future...so I’m willing to explore any tunnel you guys end up pushing me down.

Although at some point, I expect my wife will hit the button on the winch and yank me outta here by the safety rope tied around my waist. Haha.
