EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Off-topic (imagine that!), I can't resist a bit of showing-off, under the pretense of a public service announcement.

Don't trust these non-contact voltage testers, too much. They're pretty good for verifying that the power is off, but they can be fooled by induction. My workplace has an entire building where you'll see 30 volts, on any connections, because we have cables for 100 HP motors running in the same raceway as the signal cable for our bin radars. It's spooked more than one contractor, and you can waste a lot of time chasing "ghost voltage" because your "sniffer" gave you a false alarm.

It's even better when the government inspector waves his sniffer at a cable, and I have to spend half an hour up a ladder opening connection boxes to show him the wires are disconnected and capped. 😞
Signal and power in the same raceway always makes for a long day of proving cables disconnected from the power source.
Pocket tester, rough indication but not what I bet my life on.
Ghost, induced, voltage is where an old Simpson 260 comes in handy.

Fluke meter for me, but same story otherwise. I'll pull a wire nut and test from hot to ground, which I was going to do, anyway. We have a PLC system that was simply plugged into the older relay interlocks, so it's no surprise for me to find something that has two power sources, or a mix of 480, 120, and 24 volt DC signal, all in the same box. No prints, either. Let's just say it's instilled a due measure of caution.

Those 45-70s look old enough to be from Custer’s Last Stand😄. I think you’re the only one left with 45-70 though…would have to mortgage my house to buy some.
Funny thing, I don’t even own one. Another friend picked it up off an estate sale, and I’m giving it to my buddy who has a Sharps. He’ll pull the bullets and start over from there.
