EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Welcomed a new pup into the family so I've been pretty much stuck at the pad all week. So far he has basically two modes, get into everything or curl up in my robe to sleep on me (well, that plus eat & poop of course ;))

Today's stop on my journey through the modest or dated blade steels in my accumulation of folders is my BMK 800 AFCK in ATS-34, an alloy almost identical to the 154CM that Benchmade chose to supplant it as their default blade steel for a number of years. I thought this might be a long journey for me as I still have, use, and appreciate a pretty fair number of knives with modest or dated blade steels, but I'd just be duplicating those alloys on different knives. Also I'd start to enter some gray areas with some steel choices still used in current production knives--therefore not dated--and some might argue that blades of VG10 or D2 are indeed not modest, though they're certainly not current super-steels. I'll just see what's what tomorrow, I guess. Anyway, here's the earliest model of my three AFCK's plus one TSEK....

What’s his name?
I think the wifey has finally settled on Winston. I used to have a Giant Schnauzer named Beast and I always wanted a little dog named Critter, but she vetoed that pretty quickly. Then since he's a French/Boston mix she wanted a French name, so as a Trek nerd Jean Luc seemed an obvious choice to me, but nope. She and my daughter like to travel to Japan so when they asked for a name that fit that theme I came up with Wagyu. Still a no-go. Bowser and Lee Roy were bandied about for a bit as well, but in the end I think we ended up with a French Bulldog that has the most English name ever.

It’s refreshing to find what looks like a very well-built knife for such a reasonable price. And it’s a Reate 👍

It is just a little bit thick for it's small size though, and maybe 1/2 - 1" too small which makes the reverse flick open easier than a thumb flick, due to how it sits in my palm. And when I press the pivot button lock in, the blade closes 80% of the way but then stops unless I give it a slight shake to make it fully drop closed. Those are my only few gripes. I don't even mind that it's not a deep carry clip.

However, I do not mind that the sliding lock only locks it open but doesn't lock it closed - I only need it to lock closed if it's an assisted open or automatic open knife.

I just picked up this Kizer Original XL with S35VN blade and Frag patterned titanium scales. I definitely think it's a keeper!

This is how I know I have too many knives; because I also have this one for a long time, but it never made it's way into my rotation yet it's a very good knife.
