EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Got invited out to dinner at a fancy steak restaurant tonight. Needed to select a "gentleman's folder" to carry for the event.

I have lots of knives to choose from but today chose to carry a (not too long ago) discontinued US made Kershaw Speedform II (3550) that I recently purchased.

It is one of the few Kershaws (apart from some Leeks, Blurs and Knockouts) that I know of that was made w/an Elmax steel blade. Not that it would get enough (if any) use from me. Just the idea that it is made w/such steel that makes it attractive. However, the design of the knife alone w/its sleek lines from the tip of its spear point blade to the end of the G10 handle that mimics it (in reverse) and the free form deep pocket clip (reminiscent of earlier Ken Onion knives; though there's no indication that he helped to design this particular knife) would make it attractive to me regardless of the type of steel used. It also helps that ergonomics of this manual knife allows it to open so quickly that you could mistake it for assisted and that the shape of the handle fits perfectly in my hand.

It should also do a good job of cutting my steak (even though the blade is shorter than ideal for that purpose, if the knife provided by the restaurant is not quite up to the job. LOL! ;)

Who says that Kershaw only makes/made "sh*tty" knives?

Dpx Aculus flipper in M390 and titanium. Its integral so not scales, its part of the handle milling.

Solid little knife so far, has a little blade play and a strong detent but I'm going to tighten it down a little bit later and work on the detent.

Is lionsteel still making the Aculus? Didn’t know it came in a flipper. I have always admired the knife and thought it was DPX’s best folder design.

Yes sir, Lionsteel is producing these, the flipper was released last month. Day 2 in my pocket and I'm loving the knife. It isn't perfect but it's a damn fine EDC blade. My favorite part is the opening hole is functional as well as the flipper. Most knives only have a decorative thumb stud or hole ignites a flipper knife.

Another med test this morning, so another small knife called for, though my NeOn UL clipped in pocket was fine for what I was up to. I came home, ate lunch and set about some clean-up in the sheetmetal shop, picking up about two years worth of metal scrap off the floor under the squaring shear.

My Pexto Model L was likely made not long after WWII and likely had not been either sharpened or adjusted in all that time. It had several owners over the first part of its life, though it spent all of that in one location. I've had it here for about the last 30 years and finally decided to adjust the cutting bed as it was rolling over the stock at the uphill end of the cut. The knives aren't real sharp, but not so dull either, so a realignment did the trick and it's cutting just fine again.

All done adjusting and cleaning up with one of my smallest knives here with my two biggest--37 inchers!

hey chazzy I really like all your post but have noticed some of your content and because of how I always worry about good people I hope I am not out of line asking if you are ok?

Thanks for your concern, brother. In my quest to become the 6 Million Dollar Man, replacing several joints after beating the crap out myself building houses for almost 50 years, the docs found some out-of-the-blue irregularities with my ticker, so we're working to get me better so I can continue to contribute to my orthopedist's retirement fund. I'm basically a big, old, healthy guy and my docs, family, and I are hard at it and have every intention of me coming out the other side of this fine.

I hear you I too have joint issues--21 year paintless dent removal tech and ex westside barbell powerlifter has taken its toll on my shoulders.OSU sports med said I have been bone on bone for at least 8 years and want to do total replacement and I said hell no.So I am doing the stem cell injection thing to try to regenerate some cartilage and somewhat repair the joints. The stem cell has improved the situation by about 50% though which is good.
