EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

While I was absent from these pages the last two days, I was thinking about Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery 's Christmas Eve post of knives that are special to him. I've got a number of those--some of a sentimental nature and others significant in their influence in developing my preferences for subsequent acquisitions. Leaning more toward the latter and needing a work user for a home project on the Tuesday I pocketed my "rescue" 710, bought used in not great shape and significantly re-habbed. I think this was my first Benchmade which inspired my appreciation for those knives, leading to the purchase of three dozen or so BMKs and the retention of my present 24. Despite having lots of high-enders, this is still one of my very favorite blades.

While the 710 was one of my gateway blades to quality production knives, the next was what Coleman called his "first really “expensive knife" that "opened up the real threat of higher end knives". This was not my first CRK, that being a small that was too small for me and subsequently sold, but this large 21 Bocote picked up from the Exchange opened my floodgates too and the rest is history. This is one is really a drawer queen as a pre-Idaho S30V LNIB specimen (I do have 9 other larges as EDC's or work-users), but was carried on Christmas Day in its slip alongside my Snakewood Minandi.

The last in this overly-long post is what I carried to actually use yesterday and will continue with today, a knife that shows the depth to which I'll stand in rushing water over my head below those opened floodgates. As a lover of the AFCK who already has two other variations of the model, this one had been a longtime grail and this particular piece is a unicorn as the only one of its run of 400 with uncoated handle slabs, submitted to KnifeWorks for pre-production approval. I paid easily 40% more than current over-pricing for this one which is in-and-of itself well more than double original pricing for the limited run. Despite its rarity, this one gets regular EDC carry, if not work duty, as it's too good of a knife to sit in a drawer to be occasionally handled and admired.

Concluding this overly-long post, I'll echo Coleman's sentiment too in thanking y'all for making BF such a fantastic place to hang out and for the friendship to be found here. Hope everyone had a Great Christmas and best wishes for a Most Happy Holiday Season!
