EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Been liking this James Kline that I got the other day on the exchange and been carrying it to work. The other day I had a lot of cutting to do while at work and decided that I should bring a dedicated heavy cutting knife to have with me at all times, so I threw this custom little box cutter into my work backpack.

Two winners there !
For sure !

Beautiful !
hey , in case you have the same problem I had with the 710 action here is a link to a solution .
for more back ground start at beginning of the thread .

Thanks for the compliment! After checking out the linked thread, I must say that I love my current 3 710's (my combo-edge sold and the BK gifted) and can't say I have any problem with their closing action. My 2 D2/G10's both free drop easily when properly lubed and tuned, and the re-scaled -1401 drops well past 90° when closing and is easily finished off by thumb. I always use two fingers to pull sliding bar locks, the blade hitting my ring fingernail before my thumb takes over. The D2/G10's will close all the way using just my thumb on one bar stud, but I've always felt that using a single digit contributes to added strain on a single Omega spring and will contribute to its breakage.

I will say that some BMK AXIS lock knives do have a very narrow sweet spot for balancing blade play with free closing action. A little bit of occasional tinkering is no big deal to me, though, and part of the fun of the hobby.

I'm glad yours is perfect .

Mine was so touchy I could spend the couch day dialing in the pivot , carry it a bit until it warmed up in my pocket and it would then hesitate .
I could put it in the fridge for a minute and take out and it would drop quick.
Yes I always use two fingers on the lock bar.

Since I put the spacer in I have not had to adjust the pivot again no matter what the temperature around the knife
I think the original had a full back spacer back in the day and when they got fancy and went with stand offs for my "cool guy " M390 and sculpted G10 version they didn't do their R&D .
Heck on mine I could squeeze the scales to keep it from dropping and then release the squeeze and watch it drop . Needed that spacer bad .

Well, I gave your post a Like, even though I don't like that your -1401 was so touchy and displeased you. Mine was fine from the get-go both for action and feel in hand. The contoured G10 had a curiously cushioned feel to it and, as I recall, the action was just free-droppingly fine on it. I carried as regularly as a guy with way too many knives can any one piece, but over the years my appreciation for the look of the blue-black handles lessened considerably, despite the mix on mine being one of the nicer examples I'd seen. I also increasingly wanted to outfit one of my 710's with some of Keyman's handsome holey scale sets. What better 710 to use than the M390 -1401?

Anyway, the new scales were a little fussy to install and I had to work on the pivot countersinks a bit to get the centering just right and I think I lost a little cleanness in the dropping action along the way. One also has to be careful with wood scales as over tightening any of the screws can result in breakage. Still it's fine as it is and I'm glad you found a solution so you could better enjoy what's a really good knife.
