It's home to the Imperial Institute of Experimental Medicine, founded by Prince Alexander of Oldenburg.
It has a magnificent medical library.

The buildings of the first biological and chemical laboratories have been preserved.

In the garden, there's a monument to the dogs who died during experiments to treat rabies, plague, and other diseases.

Beautiful!

Jumping back and forth between the two remaining of my three stashes of Spydies not consecutively carried, I went back to the Sages for the 4th in that series, the Al Mar Tribute knife. Mar is an iconic figure in the knife world for his designs and all the excellent work produced by the company under his name. The Sage series is all about recognizing the innovators of various locking systems, and while Mar deserves credit for popularizing the front lock, that innovation was developed by Harvey McBurnette, Dick Dorough and W. T. Fuller after W.T. lost a hand in an industrial accident and needed a knife he could operate with one hand.

On the other hand (pun alert ) there's lots of Al Mar in this piece, from the ironwood handle to the long, bright Ti bolsters to the super-flush, polished handle spine and liners. Of all the Sages, it seems to be the most sought-after and priciest on the secondary market. It's also one of mine that ain't goin' nowhere other than into my hand, pocket, or knife drawer.

What a beauty! I’d cherish that one, too! My late entry, since I ran out of runway many Spydies ago, repeating the Spy Opera for Spyd-tember 28. Cheers, y’all. IMG_8498.jpeg
