I was wondering if the lightning strike caused the sap to “boil” out like that or if the tree let the sap seep out to aid in healing. I’ve never encountered this type of scar before.

Whatever led to the split in the outer rings and bark caused the oozing of sap, I would cut out as much as I could and package small bundles for fire starters.
